Patrick Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes Sr., set the internet on fire this past week with his fight with former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker during Super Bowl week.
The fight went viral and soon Barstool Sports jumped on the opportunity to capitalize on this and schedule a match between the two former Major League Pitchers for April.
But things apparently aren’t what they seem.
Pat Mahomes Sr. Makes Shocking Admission
After all the hype, especially from Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, it appears that all of this was staged, at least according to Pat Mahomes Sr.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Mahomes admits the scuffle was fake.
“[It] was a staged altercation to get publicity for [a] celebrity boxing match that was set to take place in April 2025,” Mahomes Sr. said, according to TMZ Sports.
He also attached a copy of the boxing match contract that showed it was signed on Jan. 17, 2025, which was weeks before the altercation in New Orleans.
Mahomes, who was put on probation last year for a DWI, was basically forced to admit the fight was staged because he’d face a probation violation and some jail time.
After meeting with the officials, the 57-year-old Mahomes avoided more problems, as a judge merely told him an application to revoke his probation could be filed if he slipped up again.
How Did All of This Get Started?
Rocker attempted to shake Mahomes’ hand in New Orleans, but it was smacked away, setting off an argument. The two then traded insults, with Mahomes later calling Rocker a “menace to society.” This goes back to their days when Mahomes played with the New York Mets.
Even before this latest news came out, the Chiefs’ signal-caller was doing everything he could to prevent his father from fighting. Patrick Mahomes is not a fan of Barstool, and Portnoy made sure to rub it in his face about his dad signing a contract with them to fight this fight.
“Just to show that I don’t hold grudges, I know Patty Mahomes — the Super Bowl guy, the guy who just got his doors blown off — said he hated Barstool. Well, now your dad’s fighting in our company against John Rocker,” Portnoy said.
“So I’ll save a seat — free of charge. … No bad blood, we can make up and watch your dad fight. That’s an open invite. You say you don’t like us, I get your dad to fight John Rocker at ‘Rough N’ Rowdy.”

For now, it’s unclear if the boxing match will still happen. There has been no official comment yet from either Rocker or Portnoy about what Mahomes Sr. has said and what will happen next now that this news has come out, but you have to believe that because of recent events, this fight is now up in the air.
