Deion Sanders Uses His Super Bowl Experience to Deliver a Powerful Message

On Tuesday, Coach Prime shared a video on Instagram in which he recounted his recent trip to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

On his way back to Kent, Texas, Sanders said he fell ill. However, rather than using it as an excuse to take time off, he made it clear—he doesn’t believe in stopping.

“Usually, when I catch a bug, I’m the only one happy—y’all start trippin’,” Sanders said. “Because it gives me the rest that I need, leans me out like I am, and I’m right. I’m tight and right. Now I just gotta get it back on.”

Despite feeling under the weather, Sanders pushed himself to get to work, as he has done his entire life. His message: No excuses, even in the toughest situations. In the video, Sanders is seen receiving IV treatments while still in his office, preparing for the day ahead.

“So they’re trying to give me some IVs, but the thing about it—my veins never cooperate. They always miss,” Sanders added. “Let me tell you something. A lot of my staff say I’m stubborn because I love to work, I love the young men, and I love the kids. I don’t call it work; I call it a calling.

“Sit your b**t home; stay home when you’re going through something like this. I can’t. I can’t. I’m called to this. Called for this. Amen. The devil is busy.”

Deion Sanders Takes Inspiration From His Mother

No one has inspired Sanders more than his mother, Connie Knight, who raised him and his sister, Tracie Knight, on her own. During the same video, Sanders shared that his mindset comes from watching his mother, who never took a sick day.

“I’ve never in my life, when I was coming up, seen my mother take a day off. I can’t recall a time where I was at the crib, and my mama said, ‘I’m not going to work because I don’t feel good.’ I don’t remember. I can’t recall it. So if I can’t recall my mother ever taking a day off—who am I? I don’t know. Gotta go get it,” Sanders said.

Finally, Coach Prime delivered a direct message to his followers and student-athletes:

“That may be the difference between you and me. I got it, but I’m still trying to go get it. Think about what I just said. It was powerful. I never felt like I’d reached that place called ‘there.’ Still trying to attain it. Still trying to grasp it. Still trying to go get it. Still trying to be it. Still trying to do it. Still trying to dominate it.”

There’s a reason why Coach Prime was able to take a one-win program and turn it into a conference title contender in just two years. His relentless drive and ability to inspire his young players through personal anecdotes continue to shape the culture at Colorado.
