‘I Don’t Think That’s Their Need’ – Former NFL Star Scraps Idea of Travis Hunter Going No. 1 in 2025 Draft

A former NFL star claimed Travis Hunter will not be a No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, sharing his analysis and perspective in his latest interview.

Travis Hunter is one of the most talked-about prospects in this year’s 2025 NFL Draft class. He is projected to go off the board as a top-five pick, and several teams are reportedly in contention for the Heisman winner. However, there have been rumors around the Tennessee Titans’ interest in him since they are in need of a QB, especially after Will Levis’ underwhelming performance.

Former NFL star Will Blackmon, who also happens to be a two-way athlete, contemplated the situation and shared his analysis on Hunter.

Travis Hunter Will Not Go No. 1 Says Will Blackmon

The Colorado standout had been pivotal for the college football program en route to gaining relevance in the Big 12 after they joined the conference in 2024. Under Coach Prime, he dominated on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. He helped the team punch a postseason bowl game ticket and wrap up the season with a 9-4 record.

Now, he is taking his skill sets to the next stage as a top prospect in the 2025 Draft class. It is expected that the Titans could pounce on him since they hold the No. 1 overall pick. But Blackmon believes Hunter might have to wait a bit, and the franchise is not in need of a wide receiver or a cornerback at the moment.

“Yeah, I think he’s the best athlete in the entire draft. I think he’s the best player in the entire draft,” the former NFL star said last week to Jime Rome. “Will he go No. 1? No, because, you know, the team picking first, I don’t think that’s their need.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of people who need quarterbacks, but he’ll definitely get grabbed soon, or somebody who, somebody who may want him, may move up to go get him. But, yeah, I think he is the best just overall, pure football player, because he could — honestly, he could be just as effective on both sides of the ball,” he added.

When asked if he could be a strong cornerback and disregard his wide receiver skills, Blackmon was unsure to pass a judgment. “Probably not. I mean, I would, I still think he is an outstanding, like, unbelievable, just talented athlete, and what he can do just, he is just a gifted player, man, and he’s been the best player everywhere. So I would say, I would still say yes. Maybe I’m being biased, because, you know, a skilled guy myself, but I would say yes,” he added.

If the Titans pass on him, the Cleveland Browns or the New York Giants could be next in line to pick Hunter, which again seems to be a less-than-certain move since they are in dire need of a quarterback.
