Top NFL Draft Prospect Travis Hunter Reveals Crazy Game-Day Superstition

On a recent episode of his "The Travis Hunter Show" podcast, Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter discussed his biggest superstition on game day.

Travis Hunter was a two-way star for the Colorado Buffaloes this past season, performing at an elite level as both a cornerback and wide receiver. Hunter’s play helped the Buffaloes have their first winning season in years and won him the 2024 Heisman Trophy. Recently, Hunter revealed that he thinks that part of his success comes from him adhering to a superstition.

Travis Hunter Admits Crazy Game-Day Superstition

Hunter had on Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan as a guest in a recent episode of his “The Travis Hunter Show” podcast. Like Hunter, McMillan is projected to be a high draft pick and could even go in the top 10.

On the episode, the two spoke about game-day superstitions. McMillan told Hunter about a teammate who doesn’t brush his teeth on game day. Hunter then responded, saying that he has an interesting superstition of his own.

“I wear the same underwear for game day. I got one pair of underwear I wear for every game day. I only wear it that day. I don’t wear it no other day. I literally skip that underwear as it comes out of the washer. I skip it and save it for game day.”

As far as sports superstitions go, wearing the same underwear for every game is not that crazy. Many athletes have similar superstitions, with many wearing the same socks every game. Hunter said he only wears them for game day, so it sounds like they are at least clean every time he puts on his uniform.

It will be interesting to see whether Hunter sticks with this superstition throughout his NFL career. It has gotten him this far, but many athletes change their routines once they turn pro.

Hunter will start his NFL career next season, but we won’t know where he will go until April. Many draft experts believe Hunter is the best player in the draft, but he’s not often selected first in mock drafts.

Unsurprisingly, many mock drafts have one of the top two quarterbacks, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward, going first. Lately, Penn State edge Abdul Carter has been rising in the draft rankings as well, with some mock drafts having him going No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans.

Regardless, it looks likely that Hunter will be a top-five pick. Any team that does not pick a QB has a decent chance of taking him.
