The rumors of Matthew Stafford being traded away from the Los Angeles Rams are gaining steam. The Super Bowl 56 MVP is heavily linked to the New York Giants.
NFL insider Albert Breer points out that the quarterback could be an ideal fit for the Giants — this would be a trade that will benefit both the player and the team.

Albert Breer Speculates on Matthew Stafford-to-Giants Possibility
The 37-year-old All-Pro still has two years remaining on his contract with the Rams. However, he only receives $4 million out of the $49.6 million cap hit next season. Stafford has no guaranteed money in 2026, leading many to believe that Stafford’s time in Los Angeles is coming to an end.
Breer in his column shared the reasons why Stafford should move to the Giants. “In New York, I think the Los Angeles Rams QB would be joining a team that’s much closer than people think,” he writes.
“They’ve got a franchise left tackle (Andrew Thomas) and budding No. 1 receiver (Malik Nabers) on offense, and a defense that’s well-built around three cornerstones (Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux) along the front. They also have some financial wiggle room to land Stafford, then use Stafford to lure more veterans.”

“Add to that the fact that you’ve got some folks there that’ll be fighting for their jobs in the fall and are under a fair amount of pressure to find a quarterback after the Daniel Jones contract didn’t work out, and I could see the Giants acting with some urgency.”
Giants general manager Joe Schoen has stated that finding the right person to lead the franchise will be one of the most important decisions that he and head coach Brian Daboll will make. The Giants currently have only Tommy DeVito as the QB on their roster.
Stafford’s chances could also be bolstered by a family connection in New York. Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver coach, Chad Hall, Stafford’s brother-in-law, has been hired by the Giants to be their assistant quarterbacks coach.
The Giants are projected to pick Miami’s Cam Ward per PFSN’s latest mock draft. The 37-year-old could work as a mentor to Ward while he learns the ropes of the NFL for a season or two.
