The NFL offseason is in full swing and Jeremy Fowler is mapping out potential moves for some of the biggest names in the sport. In a recent article, he mentioned current Jet receiver Davante Adams, who presumably is on the move out of New York.
The Jets have a new GM and head coach, so the high-priced veteran doesn’t appear to be a piece to the puzzle anymore. Two West Coast teams could be in play to bring Adams back to the Pacific time zone.
NFL Insider Says Davante Adams Could End Up in Los Angeles
The 32-year-old receiver grew up in East Palo Alto, California, and stayed close to home for his collegiate career at Fresno State. He was a second-round pick by Green Bay in the 2014 NFL Draft and became one of the best receivers in the league playing with Aaron Rodgers.
Adams spent eight years with the Packers, leading the league in touchdowns (18) and receiving yards per game (98.1) in 2020. He was traded to Las Vegas in 2022 and reunited with his Fresno State teammate, Derek Carr.
He led the league in touchdowns again in his first year as a Raider with 14, and 2022 capped off a stretch of six straight Pro Bowls and three straight first-team All-Pro selections. Las Vegas took a step back in 2023 and Adams was traded to the Jets early in the 2024 season.
The three-time All-Pro linked up with Rodgers in New York and played well in 11 games, totaling 67 receptions for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. The Jets couldn’t get out of their way in 2024 and hit the reset button firing the head coach and GM midseason.
Now, Adams is on the outs with New York, and Fowler thinks the receiver could end up playing his home games at SoFi Stadium next season (for either tenant).
“The Jets must address the future of receiver Davante Adams, whose $38.3 million cap hit is untenable,” Fowler said in his recent article. “A source told me Adams is intrigued by a return to the West Coast and would be open to potentially joining teams such as the Rams or Chargers — if he gets released.”
Both teams need an extra offensive piece to solidify themselves as contenders, and the Rams will need to fill the hole left by Cooper Kupp. Kupp missed five games while the team’s other receiving threat, Puka Nacua, missed six. It’s a minor miracle Sean McVay dragged his team to a division title. Bringing in Adams could get the Rams back to the Super Bowl.
The Chargers are also intriguing but in a different way — head coach Jim Harbaugh built a bully in his first year at the helm. Ladd McConkey was a weapon in his first season hauling in 82 receptions for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns, but there are still questions for the rest of the Chargers’ receiving room.
Quentin Johnston revived his career with 55 catches, 711 yards, and eight touchdowns, but untimely drops were still an issue. Josh Palmer rounds out the top three options but is replaceable if Adams joins the team.
Fowler mentioned one other team as a potential West Coast landing spot, “I would put the 49ers in the conversation, too. Adams grew up in Northern California.” Deebo Samuel joined the list of big-name players requesting trades during Super Bowl Week, and San Francisco will need to reload if they have to move on from their versatile receiver.
Adams wouldn’t be a 1-for-1 swap in terms of play style, but the football brain of Kyle Shanahan is smart enough to carve out a role for the Northern California native.
All three teams are likely to contend for a playoff spot in 2025, and the veteran receiver still has a lot left in the tank. Stay tuned for where he lands.
