2025 NFL Draft Rumors: Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs Projected To Pick Ohio State Star

Patrick Mahomes needs offensive line help after the loss in Super Bowl 59. Can the Chiefs use the 2025 NFL Draft to help bolster it?

Against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59, quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered one of the worst games of his career in a 40-22 defeat. This offseason, the Chiefs will be looking to fill the gaps that rendered the QB running from Philadelphia’s defensive line almost the entire game. With that, many believe that Kansas City will want to bolster its offensive line, and one mock draft has the perfect candidate.

Patrick Mahomes Is Set To Receive Offensive Line Help in the Offseason

The Chiefs not only survived, but thrived the entire season despite questions about their offensive line. However, those problems were laid bare in front of the world by the Eagles’ defense.

They faced similar issues in Super Bowl 55 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which they fixed in the offseason and went on a three-year tear.

As per ESPN’s Field Yates, expect Kansas City to address its weakness once again, and he suspects through his mock draft that it’ll start with Ohio State’s offensive lineman, Donovan Jackson.

Jackson was the lynchpin of Ohio State that claimed the College Football National Championship. The 22-year-old played left tackle and guard for the Buckeyes, and his resourcefulness could bolster Mahomes next season.

“Jackson played guard up until October of this past season, when he kicked out to left tackle to replace an injured [Josh] Simmons. He’s a better fit at guard and could replace Trey Smith if the Chiefs can’t re-sign the standout free agent.

“But Jackson’s ability to play outside would give Kansas City some flexibility, considering its left tackle concerns. He is powerful, dependable, and versatile,” reported Yates.

Kansas City’s offensive line superstar Trey Smith will command a big price tag this season. It has been rumored that the Chiefs will be unable to match the soon-to-be free agent’s asking price and he’ll venture out to teams like the Chicago Bears.

The Chiefs own the 31st overall pick in the upcoming draft. However, if they believe Jackson is the answer to their problems, they’re not afraid to trade up to scoop him. They pulled a similar stunt last season to draft Xavier Worthy.

In PFSN’s most recent mock draft, Jackson is slated to go 25th overall to the Houston Texans.
