Former Philadelphia RB LeSean McCoy Names Eagle To Watch Out for in Super Bowl and It Isn’t Saquon Barkley

Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy believes that Philadelphia Eagles defensive star Jalen Carter is one to watch in Super Bowl 59.

Former Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy believes that Jalen Carter will have a strong showing in Super Bowl 59. While appearing on the popular show “The Facility,” McCoy outlined why he thinks that Carter is the reason the Eagles are playing in the Super Bowl this year, despite the widespread belief that star running back Saquon Barkley is carrying the team.

Though it is hard to argue that Barkley has not been carrying the team offensively this season, it is also evident that Carter has been a crucial piece of the strong Eagles defensive unit. The second-year pro out of Georgia had 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles during the regular season, however, has emerged as a force during this playoff run. He has two sacks and one forced fumble in three playoff games this year and has been disruptive in every game.

What Did LeSean McCoy Say About Jalen Carter?

McCoy made clear that he believed that Carter was the most influential and important player on the Eagles roster.

“Jalen Carter is the reason why the Eagles are here. We can talk about Saquon Barkley on offense, doing all the spectacular things he’s been doing. But on the defensive side, if you remember the [Los Angeles] Rams game, they had a chance to come back. And Jalen Carter turned into an alligator and sealed the deal,” McCoy stated.

    Super Bowl 59 Preview

Carter and the Eagles are set to take on Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59. The contest is a rematch of Super Bowl 57, a game the Chiefs won 38-35.

Mahomes has played extremely well as of late. He has avoided holding on to the ball too long while in the pocket and has been finding his receivers quickly after the snap, something that has allowed him to avoid taking costly sacks in the postseason.

As a result, the Chiefs have been performing well offensively and have scored 23 and 32 points in their two playoff games so far.

Carter will need to continue to be a defensive force in the Super Bowl and slow down Mahomes and the Chiefs to give the Eagles their best chance to win.

The big contest takes place on Feb. 9, 2025 from Caesars Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints, and will feature Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady on the call for FOX.
