How Old Is De’Aaron Fox? Examining the Spurs Guard’s Age After Blockbuster Trade to San Antonio With Victor Wembanyama

Action has gotten under way as we approach the NBA deadline, and the San Antonio Spurs felt like they wanted to get in on the fun.

With the trade deadline just four days away, the Spurs have acquired All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings. Another big name was moved in the deal, as Zach LaVine is heading to the Kings as a part of their return, by way of the Chicago Bulls.

Fox provides 21-year-old phenom Victor Wembanyama with a star player who is currently playing his best basketball, and makes the Spurs much more dangerous.

What Is De’Aaron Fox’s Age?

Fox turned 27 on December 20, 2024. He is under contract through the 2025-26 season but has expressed a strong desire to play in San Antonio, so an extension seems like a safe bet.

He is truly one of basketball’s good guys, as he made sure to show appreciation to the organization that drafted him and helped him develop into one of the best point guards in the league, as seen below:

This blockbuster trade addresses the Spurs’ short- and long-term future as the Spurs chose to cash in on draft capital to get another young star.

Victor Wembanyama is in just his second year in the NBA, and he looks like he has potential to be one of the best to ever play, so it makes sense to pair him with Fox to try and capitalize on having a 21-year-old championship-caliber player on their roster by building the roster up now, rather than waiting any longer.

How Many Seasons Has Fox Played in the NBA?

The Kings drafted Fox with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He had played for the Kings for the entirety of his career prior to the blockbuster move.

It became apparent to the Kings that Fox was the correct pick. For the first four years of his career, he significantly increased his yearly production, raising his points-per-game average from 11.6 to 25.2 incrementally through that span.

Fox is a team player, who has averaged 6.1 assists per game in his career, and never had a season where he was below 1.0 steals per game. He even set a career-high mark in 2023-24, leading the league with 2.0 steals per game.

His basketball IQ, knack for collecting steals, and forcing turnovers earned him the name “Swipa.”
