In the 1981 Pro Bowl the AFC took their previous year's revenge and narrowly defeated the NFC 16-13. Both Kellen Winslow and Lee Roy Selmon were named the MVPs that year. The NFC found a narrow 20-19 victory over the AFC during the 1982 Pro Bowl and both Dan Fouts and John Jefferson were named the MVPs. In the 1983 season, the AFC faced a humiliating 45-3 loss to the NFC. Washington's QB Joe Theismann's historic performance earned him the MVP award in that game. In the 1984 season's Pro Bowl, the AFC bounced back with a 22-14 win over the NFC and former Jets DE Mark Gastineau was named the MVP. In the 1985 season, the NFC emerged victorious 28-24 over the AFC and Phil Simms was named the MVP. In the 1986 Pro Bowl, the AFC won 10-6 over the NFC and Reggie White was named the MVP. The AFC won 15-6 over the NFC during the 1987 Pro Bowl and former Bills' DE Bruce Smith was named the MVP. Former Eagles QB Randall Cunningham was named the MVP of the 1988 Pro Bowl after the NFC's 34-3 win over the AFC. In the 1989 season's Pro Bowl, former Rams CB Jerry Gray was named the MVP in the NFC's 27-21 win over the AFC.
