NFL News: Pete Carroll Poaches Seahawks Staff To Join Tom Brady’s New-Look Raiders

Brand new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll poaches Seahawks staff by bringing along their VP of Coaching Operations, Matt Capurro.

Tom Brady has a lot on his shoulders during his first full season as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, including the longstanding head coaching search that ended with the hiring of former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

Carroll will look to turn things around for the franchise in 2024 after ending the season with a disappointing overall record of 4-13.

To give himself an opportunity at that, Carroll brought in a former colleague who has worked with him at various times in his career.

Pete Carroll Reunites With Former Colleague Matt Capurro

Matt Capurro has been a Seahawks coach for 15 years and was in his third year as the vice president of coaching operations.

According to the Seahawks website, Capurro worked closely with 2024 head coach Mike Macdonald and was responsible for coordinating the team’s day-to-day operations. This included overseeing staff and player communications and managing the year-round football schedule, which also included the offseason program, OTA days, minicamps, and training camp.

In 2009, Capurro also worked with Carroll at USC, where he was the director of football operations. He worked directly with Carroll and coordinated all of the football team’s day-to-day operations, managing the year-round football calendar, planning all travel logistics for home and away games, directing USC football camps and clinics, and serving as liaison for the football department within the athletic department.

On Jan. 31, it was announced that Cupurro was leaving the Seahawks to reunite with his former head coach. He worked with Carroll in Seattle from 2010 to 2013 and at USC for one year before that. Cuppuro also worked with Al Davis in Oakland from 2004 to 2008.

Now that Carroll has taken the Raiders under his wing, many former Seahawks players and staff members are expected to flock to Las Vegas.

Ex-Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell recently interviewed for a job with Tom Brady’s franchise, however, nothing has been finalized yet.

While Bevell’s hiring is up in the air, the Raiders have added former Seahawks linebackers coach John Glenn, who most recently coached the Washington Commanders to the Raiders staff as their new LBs coach.

Carroll joined the franchise as their head coach on a three-year contract, with an additional year of potential extension; while there are many problems for him to fix with the franchise, finding a skilled quarterback could be a good start.
