The 2025 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and while top quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are expected to hear their names early, not everyone is sold on this year’s QB crop.
Jim Nagy Shrugs Off 2025 NFL Draft Class
Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy didn’t leave any doubts when giving his assessment of the 2025 NFL Draft class. Nagy made it clear that he doesn’t see the same level of talent as last year’s group that featured Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye.
“It’s certainly not last year,” Nagy said. “I don’t know if any of these guys would be in the top six last year. I don’t know if any of these guys are Bo Nix, Michael Penix, or JJ McCarthy.”

Despite Nagy’s concerns, Sanders and Ward are likely the draft’s top two quarterbacks. Sanders, who played two seasons at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado, put up exceptional numbers in 2024 — 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with a 74% completion rate.
Ward, who played his final college season for the Miami Hurricanes, threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns. While neither QB may match last year’s top-tier prospects, their draft stock remains strong.
According to mock drafts, both signal-callers are projected as top-five picks. PFN’s latest projection has the New York Giants trading up to select Ward first overall. At the same time, the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to take Sanders at No. 6. The Giants have reportedly been doing their homework on both quarterbacks, with team brass making multiple visits to evaluate their potential franchise leader.

One QB facing more uncertainty is Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Undoubtedly, he possesses athleticism and a cannon for an arm. Still, concerns over ball security (six fumbles in 13 games) could scare off teams like the Cleveland Browns, Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Milroe has even drawn comparisons to Lamar Jackson, but he might struggle to crack the first round unless he can clean up his turnover issues.
The draft is just months away, and teams will continue dissecting every throw, fumble, and decision these quarterbacks have made.
