Recently, an old video of current Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh emerged on social media. The video shows Harbaugh talking to the media about cheating while he was the coach of the San Francisco 49ers. As a result, NFL fans have taken to social media to discuss the irony of Harbaugh’s old statement.
Before becoming the head coach of the Chargers, Harbaugh was at the forefront of one of the biggest controversies in recent college football history. While head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, there were reports of a deep investigation into one of Harbaugh’s staff members cheating by illegally stealing signs of opposing teams. The NCAA handed Harbaugh a three-game suspension.
Social Media Reaction to Jim Harbaugh’s Old Comments
Sports analyst Justin Spiro took to X (formerly Twitter) to show the old clip and quoted an interesting line said by Harbaugh.
“‘If you cheat to win, then you’ve already lost.’ -Jim Harbaugh,” Spiro highlighted.

Harbaugh, Los Angeles Chargers 2024 Season Review
Though the old comments by Harbaugh have not aged well, he did transform the Chargers into one of the most exciting and improved teams in his first season in LA. After going 5-12 last year, the franchise improved to 11-6 this year, a record good enough for second in the AFC West and the No. 5 playoff seed. Though they were eliminated in the Wild Card Round by the Houston Texans in a 32-12 loss, the future does look bright for the Chargers.
Despite struggling mightily in the playoffs, quarterback Justin Herbert had a great regular season and took a step in his development under Harbaugh. Furthermore, the Chargers drafted wide receiver Ladd McConkey, who has already developed into one of the best receivers in the league after only one season. As a result, it is expected that the Chargers will reload this offseason and continue challenging in the AFC for years to come.
