‘This Man Was HORRIBLE in SF’ — 49ers Fans Warn Cowboys About Hiring Nick Sorensen as Special Teams Coordinator

The Cowboys are expected to hire Nick Sorensen as their special teams coordinator, but 49ers fans waved red flags after his rough stint in 2024.

    Grand opening.

The Dallas Cowboys just made a bold move as they are expected to hire Nick Sorensen as their new special teams coordinator. However, 49ers fans are not holding back. Apparently, Sorensen’s time with the San Francisco 49ers didn’t exactly win him any fan clubs. In fact, it’s safe to say his tenure left more scars than highlights.

Now, as he heads to Big D, the Niners faithful are waving red flags, ready to warn Cowboy Nation.

Nick Sorensen’s Cowboys Special Teams Hire Sparks 49ers Fans’ Fury

The Cowboys are reportedly expected to hire Nick Sorensen as their new special teams coordinator, but it’s safe to say 49ers fans aren’t exactly sending flowers. After Sorensen’s rough tenure in San Francisco, fans are already predicting the Cowboys’ special teams will be, well, less than stellar.

One fan didn’t hold back, straight-up saying, “LMAOOOOOOO this man was HORRIBLE in SF.” Ouch.

The sentiment was echoed by another, who pointed out, “Not a good sign when everyone who’s not a Cowboy fan is happy about this 💀.” Clearly, the 49ers’ struggles under Sorensen are still fresh in fans’ minds.

However, Sorensen is being hired for a different position than the one he held in San Francisco. While he led the NFL’s 26th-ranked defense in 2024, according to PFN’s Defense+ metric, albeit with an injury-strained unit, he will be taking on a different role in Dallas.

One fan found humor in the situation, saying, “😂😂😂 Dallas special teams going to be laughable.” Clearly, they’re bracing for chaos.

Meanwhile, another took a more conspiratorial turn, claiming, “Tried to tell everyone, Jerry is playing 4D chess and tanking for Arch [Manning].”

A different fan went even further, comparing Jerry Jones to Al Davis: “😭😭 Jerry Jones has went full blown Al Davis.” A bit of a stretch, but hey, Cowboys fans have seen their fair share of wild moves.

On a more positive note, one fan offered best wishes to Sorensen: “Best of luck to Nick! I thought he would end up in Seattle with Pete, but obviously he wanted a STC role over defensive position coach.” Guess it’s not all bad, yet.

In the end, Cowboys Nation is in for a wild ride. Only time will tell if Sorensen can defy the critics and turn the Cowboys’ special teams into a strength.

Sorensen’s DC Stint in S.F. Ends After 1 Season, Future Remains Uncertain

Sorensen’s tenure as the 49ers’ DC has ended after just one season. Despite initial hopes from HC Kyle Shanahan to keep him on as special teams coordinator, Sorensen either declined or was handed a rescinded offer (the details remain fuzzy). Either way, it’s expected to be a wrap.

In hindsight, promoting Sorensen to DC was a questionable move. With no previous experience in the role, he was tasked with guiding a defense that had Super Bowl aspirations.

The result: the 49ers gave up the fourth-most points in the league. Injuries didn’t help, nor did having to rely on LB De’Vondre Campbell (who underperformed and quit on his team late in the season) instead of available talent like Bobby Wagner.

Despite the struggles, Sorensen’s success as a defensive backs coach (leading the 49ers to a top-tier takeaway ranking) shows his potential in a more focused role. The 49ers’ decision to move on may sting, but it’s clear Sorensen’s strengths lie elsewhere.
