MSN Slideshow Ranking the Top 10 Royal Rumbles Of All Time By Pro Football Network FacebookTwitterReddItFlipLinkedinEmail January 29, 2025 | 11:05 AM EST Share FacebookTwitterReddItFlipLinkedinEmail 1 of 10 This was a strong field, but likely wouldn't have cracked the top 10 without John Cena's historic return at No. 30 from a pec injury that was supposed to sideline him until Wrestlemania. This Rumble often gets overshadowed by what followed -- a great run by Drew McIntyre that was overshadowed by the lack of fans. But the Rumble, itself, was amazing. From Edge's return to Brock Lesnar's elimination spree to Drew's win, this remains one of the best modern Royal Rumbles. Given the way this ended, it's impossible to leave it out of the top 10. John Cena and Batista were two of the young rising stars of the company. The simultaneous elimination combined with Vince McMahon tearing both his quads trying to slide into the ring makes this one of the most iconic Rumbles ever. This Rumble had a bit too much fluff in terms of entrants, but the stars carried the show. We got see CM Punk carry it early, Beth Phoenix eliminate Great Khali, Shawn Michaels put on a performance, and, of course, Edge's amazing return. The 2014 and 2015 Royal Rumbles were two of the worst of all time. Fortunately, things rebounded in 2016. While Triple H wasn't a popular winner, we got A.J. Styles' debut and great performances from a ton of top stars along the way. This was a changing of the guard Royal Rumble where WWE really went out of its way to try and create new stars. It's unfortunate that the great underdog story was Chris Benoit, given what would ultimately happen. But at the time, Benoit was someone fans thought deserved better. In 2004, he overcame a stacked field to win a great Rumble. There aren't many recent Rumbles on this list. In 2018, WWE delivered a masterpiece. This Rumble was filled with exciting surprises, great performances, and WWE didn't go the classic Reigns or Cena wins route, opting to give Shinsuke Nakamura the victory. A complete success through and through. Many consider this the greatest Royal Rumble of all time. It's a fair argument. This was early in the Rumble's existence and a completely loaded field with all of the top stars of the 90s. Ric Flair winning his first WWF Championship was the icing on top. Based on the mini-match between Shawn Michaels and Undertaker to close out this contest, this Rumble could already crack the top 10. It is as high as No. 2 because of the strong lead up. Undertaker finally getting a much deserved win helped cement its status. This came at the tail end of the Attitude Era. It was one last ode to what many view as wrestling's golden age. All of the stars came to play. We had Kane's then elimination record, fun cameos, and great performances by supporting characters. Everyone knew the plan was Rock-Austin at Wrestlemania, but that's what makes this Rumble the best -- it was so well executed that we were fine with it.
