The Swede took over the Australian soil in 1983 and defended his title the following year. Wilander won another title in 1988. One of the greatest tennis players of all time, Rod Laver, has won the Australian Open thrice. The main court of the AO is named after him. Laver won his first AO championship in 1960 and did it all over again in 1962 and 1969. Adrian Quist secured three Australian Open titles in his career. Quist had to wait a little longer for his titles. The first of the three came in 1936 and Quist won it again four years later in 1940. The hunt for another AO titles ended nearly after a decade as Quist got his hands on the silverware in 1948. James Anderson won three Australian Open title in his career. The Australian international’s first championship came in 1922. He couldn’t defend his title the following year but bounced back in the following year to win back-to-back championships. Andre Agassi clinched four Australian Open titles in his career. After winning it for the first time in 1995, Agassi had to wait five years for his next title. He continued his reign for another year. Although he missed the hat-trick of AO titles in 2002, he won it again in 2003. Ken Rosewall lifted four Australian Open titles in his career. His success came in pairs in two different centuries. Rosewall won his first AO title in 1953 and clinched another in 1955. After 15 years, the Australian won the silverware again in 1971 and defended his title the following year. Jack Crawford won the Australian Open four times. All of his crownings came in a five year span. He won it for the first time in 1931 and defended it for the next two editions, becoming the first player to complete a hat-trick of AO titles. Roger Federer got his hands on six Australian Open titles before retiring. The Swiss international won his first AO title in 2004. He waited a year to win it again and then defended it in 2007. Another couple of year wait brought him another AO title. Federer won it all over again in 2017 and then defended it in 2018. Roy Emerson won six Australian Open titles in his career. The Australian international was crowned the champion for the first time in 1961. After missing out on the AO title in 1962, Emerson won five Australian Open titles in a row, a record that hasn’t been broken yet. Novak Djokovic is the king of the Australian Open with 10 titles to his name. He was crowned the AO champion for the first time 2008. Djokovic had to wait just three years to win it again and he defended it for two years. The Serbian won it again in 2015 and retained it for another year. He completed another hat-trick after taking it back from Roger Federer in 2019. His last AO title came in 2023. Djokovic retired from this year’s AO in the semifinals due to an injury.
