The Las Vegas Raiders have been looking for a new head coach, and several rumors surround the team. One of the most common rumors was that Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders would be pursued as their next head coach.
However, on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, it was announced that the team was going in a different direction, signing Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll to a three-year contract with a fourth-year team option.
Fans React to the Las Vegas Raiders Hiring Pete Carroll as Next Head Coach
Carroll has been a member of the Seattle Seahawks organization since 2010 before joining Vegas for the 2025 season. He transitioned to a management role in 2024 after splitting ways with the team from his head coaching role but has decided to return to coaching.
He was hired as the Raiders head coach. NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the signing, and fans reacted to this news on X (formerly known as Twitter), with most of them expressing their excitement.
“3-4 seasons makes sense. I don’t think he will coach beyond that. They’re looking to load up and try for a Super Bowl by year 2-3 for sure. Not going to be easy, though. They need to find a good QB and compete in a division that is very strong,” one fan commented.
“First-time GM with an experienced coach. Going to be some fireworks for sure,” one fan wrote.

After watching the early candidates get scooped up by other franchises, some fans applauded the Raiders, valuing the experience over the recency.
“Love this hiring; give him a big say in player personnel and watch the culture grow… Best hire this year Vrabel close second,” one fan added.

Fans continued to discuss the signings on X, with one doubting whether his personality fits with the organization and others concerned about his age.
“Carroll has been a great coach in the past, but IMO he doesn’t seem like a great personality fit for the Raiders. Am I wrong?” one fan wrote.

“Do the raiders know they just hired a 73 year old man to run their football team?” one fan commented.
“Pete will be 77 in that final year. lol. There has to be a plan for year 2/3, right?” one fan added.

Carroll brings a wealth of experience to Las Vegas as it continues its rebuild. He won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2013 and won two national championships with USC in 2003 and 2004.
During his tenure with the Seahawks, he only missed the playoffs four times in 14 seasons. He should be the experienced voice the young Raiders roster needs as it rebuilds over the next few seasons.
