With the head coaching carousel in full flow and the top candidates finding their fits, eyes naturally turn to the next step in the offseason: potential player trades. Social media now plays a massive role in players and agents pushing for moves, and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf might be the latest player to jump on that trend.
Metcalf caught social media’s attention with a suggestive post that excited fans of one particular NFL franchise.
DK Metcalf Sparks Trade Rumors With Post
It’s commonplace for wantaway players to make posts on social media intended to spark trade rumors. Metcalf appears to be the latest player to adopt that tactic, possibly eyeing a move away from the team this offseason.
Nestled among a slideshow of photos posted by Metcalf on his Instagram account is a picture of his old high school, Oxford High School in Oxford, Miss. The photo from his car focuses on the Oxford Chargers logo, which features a lightning bolt. Chargers, lightning bolt — if Metcalf is trying to say something, he’s not being discreet about it.

If this feels like a reach, it’s not the first Chargers-related social media post Metcalf has recently been involved in.
Chargers Linebacker Posts Photo With Metcalf
Not long after Metcalf was initially linked with a move to L.A., Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley reposted a photo of the two together in 2022. The picture was taken before Henley was drafted to the NFL and played at Washington State.

While head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz are unlikely to be swayed by a social media post, it’s clear that Metcalf would be a welcome addition to the team. Despite Ladd McConkey’s outstanding rookie season, quarterback Justin Herbert would benefit massively from a receiver upgrade.
NFL Executives Predict Metcalf to Chargers
So, where have the rumors come from?
An article written for ESPN by Jeremy Fowler raised a potential Metcalf to Chargers trade. In it, Fowler revealed insights from NFL executives, scouts, and personnel figures. The piece touches on the fact that Metcalf will be a free agent in 2026 and that the star receiver played second fiddle to Jaxon Smith-Njigba this past season.
The Chargers fell at the first hurdle in this year’s playoffs, going down 32-12 in Houston. If the team wishes to go further in 2025, getting their quarterback some receiver help is necessary.
Metcalf, at just 27 years old, is still in his prime and would undoubtedly elevate the Chargers’ offense. His role likely wouldn’t be much different from the one he currently fills in Seattle, complementing a young, talented slot receiver while dominating on the outside.
Any trade would likely have to occur before the 2025 NFL Draft, so this is one to watch in the coming weeks and months.
