‘You’re No Longer America’s Team’ — Colin Cowherd Dooms Cowboys Over Rumors of Brian Schottenheimer Taking Over as HC

Colin Cowherd highlights his disagreement with Brian Schottenheimer leading the pack to be declared as the next Cowboys HC, per rumors.

Things move fast in Texas, and Brian Schottenheimer has leapfrogged as the leading candidate for the head coaching job, making a deal possible.

NFL analyst Colin Cowherd, on the other hand, bemoans this decision. He highlights the issues in moving forward with Schottenheimer that will derail the franchise’s label as the America’s Team.

Colin Cowherd Calls Out the Cowboys for Interest in Brian Schottenheimer as Next HC

On Thursday, Jan. 23, Cowherd, like many others, heard about rumors that Schottenheimer could be revealed as the next Cowboys head coach. The 51-year-old coach joined the Cowboys in 2022 and was their offensive coordinator for the last two seasons.

“We are watching the fall of a great American institution,” Cowherd said, reacting to the rumors. “He’s not even interviewing for other jobs. Nothing against him.”

“Nice guy. Three jobs, five seasons, never been a head coach, never really been a top candidate for a head coach, but Jerry [Jones] likes him.”

Cowherd highlighted that, despite Schottenheimer’s extensive experience as an NFL coach, he has made mostly lateral moves. According to him, this should not be a qualifying quality for a coach in the middle of his career.

Cowherd predicts this move will be the undoing of the franchise. “I’m speechless. I don’t even know what to say with this,” he added. “You are now the Cowboys as America’s No. 1 sports brand. You might as well just give that to the [Green Bay Packers].”

“Give that to the Kansas City Chiefs. Hand it over. It’s over. It’s done. You’re no longer America’s team. I watch C.J. Stroud, are you Texas’ team? I’m not sure.”

Cowboys Insider Doesn’t Agree That HC Job Is Schottenheimer’s

The entire world is busy reacting to the rumors that the OC is set to succeed Mike McCarthy. However, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram wants them to rein in their horses.

“Could Schottenheimer be the hire? One long-tenured staffer thinks so, while others in the building remain more confident in his chances to be retained as offensive coordinator, not as head coach,” Harris writes.

“Depending on who an eventual head coach hire would be in the event he is retained with his current role, Schottenheimer has made clear his desire to be an offensive play-caller in 2025.”
