Former NFL running back Reggie Bush, who most famously played for the New Orleans Saints and won a Super Bowl with them, is interested in coaching. Before his NFL career, he played for the USC Trojans. Now, he is interested in returning to the Trojans as their next head coach after a disappointing 7-6 season this year.
Former NFL Running Back Reggie Bush Expresses Interest in Coaching the USC Trojans
Bush retired from the NFL in 2017, having last played in the 2016 season. Since then, he has not done much in his post-playing career. But now, he is interested in making a change and starting a coaching career.
Bush recently spoke with “The Sporting Tribune” and told them he spoke to Sacramento State about their head coaching position. However, he also spoke about his desire to take over the coaching position at USC.
“I would love to come back and be the head coach of USC at some point and help lead USC to a national championship,” Bush said. “Lately, man, I’ve just been really having this urge inside of me to get out and coach because it’s in me. And it’s been something I’ve been thinking about a lot and actually talking to people about.”
“I actually spoke to some people over at Sacramento State for the head coaching job when that came up,” Bush detailed. “I spoke to some people over there about coaching and it’s definitely something that I want to do.”
“The same way Kirby Smart, a former player from Georgia, came back to coach his team to a title, I would love to do that as well at USC. I think that’d be a tremendous story, a tremendous comeback story. I think I have what it takes. I got the passion. And a lot of these kids grew up watching our era and watching our teams.”

It will be interesting to see if Reggie Bush is considered the next time they look for a head coach at USC. Lincoln Riley currently coaches the team and has been since 2022. He took over a team that was rebuilding. Yet, after a strong first season, the team has largely struggled.
Trojans management has not indicated that Riley will be fired in the offseason. However, it is not hard to speculate about what might happen if they get off to a slow start in 2025.
