‘Wants The CU Job!’ — CFB Fans React to Nick Saban Endorsing Deion Sanders as Cowboys Coach

Football fans react on social media to legendary coach Nick Saban's endorsement of Deion Sanders for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job.

Earlier this week, legendary college football coach Nick Saban endorsed Deion Sanders for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching vacancy. While discussing a wide variety of topics about college football and the NFL on the popular podcast “The Pivot,” Saban detailed how he wanted to see Prime Time make the move to the NFL.

Saban moved into a commentary and analyst role after retiring from coaching in January of 2024. The longtime Alabama Crimson Tide icon’s resume is unimpeachable, and his words hold weight in the football world.

Social Media Reacts To Nick Saban Vouching for Deion Sanders, Dallas Cowboys

The popular On3sports’ X profile posted a photo of Saban alongside Sanders and explained how Saban had recently endorsed Sanders for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching role.

“I want him to get that job,” Saban said. He isn’t alone in that sentiment, although Cowboys fans seem to be divided on the issue.

In response, one individual shared their belief that Saban was only making such a statement so that he could return to the college game, this time with Coach Prime’s Colorado Buffaloes.

“Saban wants the CU job that’s why,” they stated.

However, Saban has been clear that his coaching career is behind him. As a result, it is extremely unlikely that he would even consider coaching the Buffaloes.

Meanwhile, one social media user shared their thoughts about the school’s future if Coach Prime did in fact decide to leave.

“He’s gone. Colorado going back to mid,” they explained.

Finally, one person outlined how Coach Prime going to Dallas would not matter as long as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was still in control.

“Jerry’s not going to give him full control so Dallas will suck like always,” they said.

Could Deion Sanders Become The Next Cowboys Head Coach?

It appears that there is at least some form of mutual interest between Sanders and Jones for the head coaching vacancy.

It was reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter that Coach Prime and Jones had a phone call and discussed the possibility of Sanders becoming the next head coach, something that was later personally verified by the coach. Sanders’ commitment to Colorado and the buyout in his contract make it more likely that he will remain in Boulder.

Since those reports, Dallas has continued to interview other candidates like Brian Schottenheimer, Leslie Frazier, Kellen Moore, and Robert Saleh. The Cowboys may not be close to landing their next coach just yet, meaning the door is still open for a potential Sanders splash if both sides see fit.
