ESPN ‘First Take’ Host Rips Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift, and Caitlin Clark, Accuses Clark of Faking Chiefs Fandom

Caitlyn Clark joined Taylor Swift in the press box to root on the Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round, which led to a vintage Christopher Russo rant.

Last season, after Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and popstar Taylor Swift began dating, broadcasts began to show her frequently during games, much to the dismay of NFL fans. While it has toned down this season, and she has attended fewer games, some fans still get upset when she appears on the screen.

During Kelce’s AFC Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans, Swift was joined by a new face in the press box, Caitlin Clark, the point guard for the Indiana Fever. Seeing celebrities in the press box alongside Swift is nothing new, but seeing Clark alongside Swift sent one ESPN host into a frenzy.

Christopher ‘Mad Dog’ Russo Goes on Vintage Rant About Caitlyn Clark Attending Chiefs Game

Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo is known as an old-school sports fan who goes on rants to share his feelings on the sports world and for his time on WFAN Sports Radio, ESPN, and MLB Network. It has been through this that Russo has gained such popularity among sports fans.

“I’ve had enough with Kelce. I’ve had enough with the girlfriend. And now I got Caitlin Clark in the mix,” Russo said. “I am so Chiefed out, it’s ridiculous.”

Russo’s rant echoes the feelings of many sports fans, who are tired of seeing the Chiefs in the big games every year, as well as seeing Kelce and Swift all over social media and broadcasts.

However, the team continues to prove it’s a dominant one and thus will remain in the public eye. Combine that with Swift being the biggest music star in the world right now, and it’s easy to see why networks and commercials are choosing to feature the two so frequently.

    Russo Questions Clark’s Chiefs Fandom

In addition to being fed up with the Chiefs, Russo questioned Clark’s Chiefs fandom.

“I heard not one reference that she was a Chiefs fan, and then all of the sudden now ‘I was a big Kanas City fan.’ Oh, come on, stop, please,” Russo said.

Yet, at the start of the new year, Clark appeared on Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast “New Heights,” where she shared that she has always been a huge Chiefs fan.

“People think I’m like a bandwagon Chiefs fan,” Clark said. “I’m like no I was there before Patrick and Travis … we were ride or dies.”

Clark was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Chiefs are the closest team to her hometown. So, while it’s easy to call someone a bandwagon fan, it’s pretty clear that she’s been a fan of Kansas City for years.

Clark had an incredible rookie season in the WNBA and has quickly become one of the faces of the league. As a rookie, she averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. Her success as both a collegiate and professional has made the sport more popular than ever before.

After attending a game together, Swift and Clark appear to have become friends. Swift wrote that her and Kelce plan to attend a Fever game in 2025, which will likely draw nearly as much attention on social media as Swift and Clark’s appearance at Arrowhead garnered.

With Kelce and the Chiefs playing at home against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, it will be interesting to see if Clark joins Swift once again from the press box.
