After the Chicago Bears’ disappointing 2024 season under head coach Matt Eberflus, the franchise decided quickly that it was time to move on.
Eberflus was dismissed as the Bears head coach on Nov. 29, initiating the search to find his replacement. Chicago wanted someone with the skills to turn things around with Caleb Williams and the Bears’ promising talent pool.
The search ended, and reports emerged that the Bears were finalizing a massive contract with Ben Johnson, one of the NFL’s most innovative and promising offensive minds.
NFL Fans React to Ben Johnson’s Rumored Contract
As the Bears and Johnson finalize the final details of their contract, fans are left spellbound by the staggering amount for the rookie head coach.
After the Detroit Lions’ heartbreaking 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders, their offensive coordinator, Johnson, will become the Bears’ head honcho.
Johnson is expected to receive a massive contract worth $14.5 million a year, which would likely put him in the top 10 highest-paid coaches in the NFL.

Fans shared their thoughts on the news after hearing the massive amount that will soon be deposited into Johnson’s bank account.
One fan said, “Good on Ben, and I actually believe that our coordinator(s) leaving is just the type of challenge Dan Campbell needs to motivate our players again next year. After the San Francisco loss last year, he could tell them it was going to take a lot more and that they needed to get home field advantage.”
That same fan added, “This year, we had home field advantage and couldn’t get it done, and I was wondering what Campbell would say to rally the troops. Now he can say, ‘they think we can’t do it because we’ve lost our coordinators, well let’s prove them wrong and get to work!'”
“Dude is making more than three head coaches that won a Super Bowl and more than Dan Campbell,” another fan pointed out.
“If Ben Johnson flops, he gets paid and gets to pull out the old Parcells goated quote about how if they want you to cook, they should let you buy the groceries. It’s a win-win for that guy,” another fan added.
Another fan wrote, “This guy is getting paid legit a bit more than double what Sirianni is annually (w/ 52-23 career record, love him or hate him) and hasn’t won a single game yet as a HC. Wild shit when bidding wars get out of control.”
While Caleb Williams’ success is important for the Bears’ future, they’ve done themselves a favor by hiring an offensive mind that can change the game with the O-line.
