Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Monday on the “Pat McAfee Show” that Brian Schottenheimer may be in line for the top job with the Dallas Cowboys. Schottenheimer has never been a head coach, but Las Vegas oddsmakers have him as the presumptive favorite.
Las Vegas Oddsmakers Like Brian Schottenheimer To Stay in Dallas as Head Coach
Schefter reported Jan. 20 that Schottenheimer, the offensive coordinator under former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, is Jerry Jones’ current favorite. The oddsmakers in Vegas responded, making him the betting favorite to take over as head coach of America’s Team.
“I think Brian Schottenheimer is the favorite in Las Vegas here. Now that doesn’t mean that Brian Schottenheimer isn’t going to be the head coach at some point in time,” Schefter said. “We never rule out anything. But to the best of my knowledge he hadn’t even interviewed for the job and Dallas hadn’t approached about being the head coach.”
Schefter said Dallas knows Schottenheimer well, and Jones respects his work in the NFL. Although he has yet to be interviewed for the job, Jones can change that in an instant.
“I think the Cowboys absolutely love and respect Brian Schottenheimer and they want him there. But I don’t know that that’s as the head coach right now. Again the process will unfold and we’ll see what twists and turns it takes and maybe it leads them back to Brian Schottenheimer as a head coaching candidate.”

Cowboys fans are not happy with the thought of Schottenheimer taking over the Cowboys.
One fan said he won’t believe it until there is an interview, but regardless, he does not want Schottenheimer to get the job. He went so far as to call it a stupid idea.
The Brian Schottenheimer/Cowboys stuff gets real for me once there's an interview
It's a profoundly stupid idea though and genuinely one of the worst things Dallas could do

Another fan vowed to stay off of social media if Schottenheimer or former Dallas offensive coordinator Kellen Moore gets the job. He seems to think it would just be another Jones puppet.
You know it is starting to get serious when fans talk about abstaining from social media.
Not gonna BS, if the next Cowboys HC is Moore or Schottenheimer, I might just take a season off from this app.
There’s 2 NFC East teams in the NFC championship, and Jerry & Stephen will most likely hold with the status quo by picking another puppet HC.

One more fan called the potential Schottenheimer hiring “uninspired” and said it shows the team is not committed to winning.
If Cowboys end up hiring
Brian Schottenheimer I will be convinced that.A. This team is not taking winning seriously
B. This job is not wanted nor coveted by coaches who want to be taken seriously.

He also seems to think if the Cowboys are planning on talking to Schottenheimer, there must not be much interest in the job. Troy Aikman might be right when he said the Cowboys job is not that coveted anymore.
If Jerry actually promotes Brian Schottenheimer to head coach, my wallet is staying on strike‼️
No tickets, no Cowboys gear, no tailgating, no looking forward to training camp, nothing.
Being a Cowboys fan is becoming a test of endurance.

One more fan said if the Cowboys hire Schottenheimer, he is going to go “on strike” when it comes to spending money on the team. He refuses to buy tickets, gear, or food for tailgating if Schottenheimer is offered the job.
