Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman has been a hot subject in the NFL circles recently due to his insane success at college. The 39-year-old coach is heading to the 2025 CFP National Championship Game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
While addressing the media at the pregame presser, the coach dropped his verdict on potential NFL transition rumors. He has been consistently linked to the Chicago Bears and other pro coaching vacancies.
Marcus Freeman Addresses NFL Coaching Job Rumors
The Notre Dame coach has been a key asset to the program’s recent success. His team came out of nowhere to contend for the national championship.
The Irish crushed the Penn State Nittany Lions at the Orange Bowl during the Semifinal showdown and are eying to write history in Atlanta. Freeman made sure that all the rumors around his coaching transition were cleared beforehand so that no theories were brewed in real time.
“Here’s the reality is that with team success comes individual recognition,” Freeman said to Heather Dinich of ESPN on Saturday, Jan 18.
“And you know, to hear that the Bears are interested. It’s humbling, it’s the NFL, but it’s also a reminder team success comes individual success, and so I have put zero thought into coaching in the NFL. All my attention is just getting this team prepared, so probably not the answer you’re looking for,” he added.

All these rumors originated from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler’s remarks on Jan. 9, which stated that Freeman could be a hot target for several NFL teams. There has been real chatter since he punched a Semifinal ticket against Penn State.
“Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is firmly on the NFL radar entering the Fighting Irish’s College Football Playoff Semifinal against Penn State. Teams have done their homework on him,” Fowler said, per Bleacher Report.
Moreover, he has been constantly linked to the Bears coaching job and even the New England Patriots after Jerod Mayo got fired. But, Mike Vrabel’s hire has shut that door in New England.
Heading into the CFP National Championship Game, Freeman flaunts a 33-9 career record, which is phenomenal in all aspects. The future looks bright for the Notre Dame coach. Even if he refuses to take the NFL podium this season, a potential transition would seem imminent.
