MSN Slideshow Ranking the Top 10 Nicknames of Current NFL Players By Pro Football Network FacebookTwitterReddItFlipLinkedinEmail January 17, 2025 | 12:15 PM EST Share FacebookTwitterReddItFlipLinkedinEmail 1 of 10 Devin Singletary has quickly found his niche as a solid running back in the league, but it is his nickname 'Motor' that sticks out. Passed on to him by his father, Singletary was called "Little Motor" in high school, and the name stuck on even when he made the pros. Tyrann Mathieu earned the “Honey Badger” for his toughness, persistence, and patch of blonde hair. While he initially attempted to distance himself from the nickname upon joining the NFL, Mathieu said in 2019 that he’d grown accustomed to the label. A three-time first-team All-Pro, Mathieu is now entering his 12th pro campaign and third year with the New Orleans Saints. The quintessential jack of all-trades, Taysom Hill holds the record for most single-season touchdowns without a turnover by quarterback at 7. Flirting between the QB and the TE positions, Hill has built a unique niche for himself. A devout Christian, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was given the nickname "The Mormon Missile" by quarterback Drew Brees, one that his offensive line still refers to him by. Daniel Jones never reached the highs that many had envisioned for him. However, at his peak, he was dishing dimes left and right in practice, giving way to the Danny Dimes nickname that has stuck with him throughout his tenure in the league. Joe Burrow is not only one of the best quarterbacks of this generation, but also one of its most clutch. His common voice, especially late in the 4th quarter, has earned him the moniker Joe Cool from the NFL fanbase at large. Terry McLaurin has established himself as a premier receiving threat in a short amount of time. Already an All-Rookie Team member, two-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro, McLaurin's connection with QB Jayden Daniels has made him downright dangerous. And it has made the nickname "Scary Terry" which he got in his rookie season all the more appropriate. Ahmad Gardner has quickly solidified himself as one of the premier corners in the league, winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, as well as making two All-Pro teams and Pro Bowls. Gardner got the nickname "Sauce" from a youth football coach at age six because he had barbecue sauce all over his face while eating some ribs. That nickname eventually even led to a partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings to endorse a sweet and spicy barbecue sauce for them called "Sauce Sauce" "Mad" Maxx Crosby is not only one of the best defensive ends in the league currently, but also one of its scariest. Already a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro selection, he cleared 7 sacks in each season of his career. His singular focus and temperament even back in his college days earned him the Mad Maxx persona, especially with his relentless nature on the gridiron. On his way to a Hall of Fame career, Tyreek Hill might be the best wide receiver of this generation. A six-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowl selection, he has led the league in receiving yards, touchdowns, and was a member of the 2010s All-Decade team despite being drafted in 2016. A Super Bowl Champion, his unbelievable speed earned him the nickname "Cheetah". An offense unto himself, Derrick Henry long carried the Tennessee Titans on his back, registering multiple 1,000-yard and even a 2,000-yard season, becoming just the eighth player in league history to reach the margin. A trophy room that is littered with accomplishments, Henry is a borderline or a no-doubt Hall of Fame candidate when he retires. In his high school days, when he was aiming to break the national high school record, crowds and local news outlets crowned him "King Henry", a name that has stuck with him for well over a decade.
