Cam Newton Speculates Cowboys Being Referred as ‘Culture’s Team’ Instead of America’s Team if Jerry Jones Gets Shedeur and Deion Sanders

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton talked about the impact Deion Sanders and Shedeur Sanders could have on the Dallas Cowboys.

Deion Sanders has emerged as the favorite to become the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. The Colorado head coach still has three years left on his deal with the university, but he will reportedly accept the offer to coach in the NFL if Jerry Jones asks him to.

Sanders’ appointment as a head coach in the NFL will be huge for the league, as he will bring along a huge number of fans who supported him at Colorado. Cam Newton believes the Hall of Famer becoming the Cowboys’ head coach will have a huge cultural impact.

Cam Newton Discusses What Deion Sanders Would Mean to Cowboys

Newton discussed the situation on his “4th&1” podcast. He mentioned how America’s team could be known as “the culture’s team” if the Cowboys can get Sanders and draft his son to be the quarterback.

“With Coach Prime being in Dallas as the head coach and drafting Shedeur as their quarterback, does the name change for Dallas being ‘America’s team,’ or would it be ‘the culture’s team?'” Newton said. “It’s still about selling tickets, but Dallas is still the Cowboys, like not just the team mascot but all-money Cowboys.”

Newton also talked about how Sanders’ appointment will increase the attention paid to the Cowboys, which is already the highest among all the teams in the league.

“Like, bro, Colorado’s sidelines look like a birthday bash in Atlanta. The Cowboys’ sidelines will look like Rolling Loud backstage,” Newton added. “I don’t think not just the football world but the sports world is ready for that. I don’t know how much flowers I can throw at Coach Prime, but he’s the biggest sports coach in the world.”

The former NFL MVP is right about Sanders as he has carried himself in a certain way from his playing days which makes him a big topic of discussion among the fans and the media. The Cowboys owner loves to keep his team’s name in the news, and by hiring the Colorado head coach, he will benefit a lot financially even if the team fails to win the Super Bowl.

However, Jones will be required to pay a substantial amount of money to get Sanders. He will have to pay a buyout amount of $8 million to Colorado and then offer the Hall of Famer enough money to convince him to coach in the NFL.

Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright recently said he doesn’t think the Cowboys owner will do that and suggested the team is linked with Sanders only to create news headlines. It remains to be seen whether Wright’s theory is true or Jones genuinely wants Coach Prime on the Cowboys.

Drafting Shedeur Sanders Might Not Be Necessary for the Cowboys

The Cowboys have the 12th overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, and it will be nearly impossible for them to draft the Colorado QB. The franchise signed Dak Prescott to a four-year, $240 million extension, and the possibility of him getting traded in favor of a rookie quarterback is quite low.

It might not be necessary for the Cowboys to draft Sanders’ son to get him to coach the team. Coach Prime should be open to taking over a team without his son as the quarterback, and it could probably help him to become an even better head coach.

Having star players like Prescott, Micah Parsons, and CeeDee Lamb on the team will be a good start for Sanders, as he can then build his team around them. The Cowboys roster doesn’t have many flaws, and a lot could be fixed by drafting Ashton Jeanty in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Apart from Sanders, the Cowboys are also interested in making Kellen Moore their new head coach. Many fans prefer Sanders over him, and the team has to work out a deal to make sure he coaches in Dallas next season.

The 57-year-old head coach won two Super Bowls during his playing career and knows what it takes to make a championship team. His experience of playing five seasons with the Cowboys will also benefit the team, and if this move works out, Jones’ reputation among the fans will also improve.
