Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is one of the highest-paid assets on the team and one of the most celebrated players because of his success on the field. On Tuesday, Lamb “liked” a post on social media that described owner Jerry Jones discussing the open head coaching position with former Cowboys legend and current Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders.
CeeDee Lamb Likes Post on Deion Sanders
Lamb, who signed a four-year, $122 million contract extension this past offseason, is one of the most outspoken Cowboys. He also has a tendency to get the ear of Jones, who listens the most to those that he pays the most.
If Lamb wants Sanders, and Sanders wants Dallas, the math adds up.
Sanders was very popular as a player, is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and is a successful coach at the University of Colorado. Earlier this week, he emerged as a top candidate to replace the deposed Mike McCarthy, who did not have his contract renewed.
Sanders spoke with Jones regarding the opening, and the two are rumored to be having further discussions in the near future. Sanders would not admit his interest in the job, but he didn’t deny it either. In fact, he called it “intriguing.”

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday night. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body, and the community.”
While the Cowboys are still going to interview other candidates, there’s a real possibility that Sanders will take over the team he once played for (or, at the very least, be a finalist for the job). Discussions will continue between Sanders and Jones in the coming days.
Right after McCarthy’s deal wasn’t renewed, it didn’t take long for NFL fans and analysts to start connecting the dots and speculating that Sanders would be the Cowboys’ next head coach.
With Jones wanting to make a splash and ensure that Dallas will remain the talk of the sports world, it makes sense to pursue the former Cowboys legend.
Sanders did a terrific job coaching the Buffaloes this season, leading them to a 9-4 record and producing a pair of potential top-five picks in the 2025 NFL Draft (Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter).
Sanders had a Hall of Fame career and earned a number of accolades, including an NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, eight All-Pro selections, eight Pro Bowl nods, and a spot on the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team and 1990s All-Decade Team.
