Davante Adams Believes Aaron Rodgers Has ‘Few More Years in the Tank’ As 4x NFL MVP’s Future Remains Uncertain

    Published on

Davante Adams thinks Aaron Rodgers can continue playing for a longer time despite recent retirement rumors surrounding the Jets quarterback.

The Aaron Rodgers era in New York has been a complete disaster. He suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on his debut for the New York Jets in 2023, and the team looked worse with him as the quarterback in 2024.

The Jets finished the season 5-12 and have the seventh overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. There is growing speculation about Rodgers retiring, but Davante Adams thinks the quarterback still has good football left in him.

Davante Adams Talks About Aaron Rodgers’ Future

Adams was asked about Rodgers’ future in the league during a recent appearance on the “Up & Adams” show. The star wide receiver emphasized that the four-time NFL MVP should be allowed time to make the decision, as he has already played 20 seasons.

“I mean, it feels like we’re done for the year, at least,” said Adams. “I don’t know, I think he [Rodgers] definitely needs to, every year he said, like, ‘I need to figure out what’s going on in my future and all this stuff.’ I think it’s legit, I think he has a lot going on in his head, a lot of different potential options the way.”

Adams further discussed how Rodgers played well later in the season, which shows that he can play at the elite level for a few more years.

“Anytime you play 20 years, like, you can easily hang it up,” Adams continued. “I don’t think anybody would say you’re ridiculous for that. So it could happen. But I mean, if you look at the way that he played once he was healthier at the end of the year, you could definitely make a case; he has a few more years in the tank for sure, not just one. So, that’s my take on it, but we’ll see where he’s at after this year.”

The Jets won 32-20 against the Miami Dolphins in the last game of the regular season. Rodgers finished the game with 274 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception, completing 63.9% of his throws with a passer rating of 112.5.

In the last 10 games of the season, Rodgers threw for 2,234 yards, 18 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He had a completion percentage of 64.0%, with a passer rating of 97.0, and averaged 223.4 passing yards per game.

The decision to fire Robert Saleh returned to bite the Jets, as the defense regressed a lot after his departure. Considering he was coming off an Achilles injury, Rodgers played well enough in the second half of the season. New York could have made the playoffs if the team’s defense had been a little better.

The Cleveland Browns Could Pursue Rodgers

If Rodgers doesn’t retire, some teams could be interested in signing him for the 2025 NFL season. The Cleveland Browns are expected to be one of them, as Deshaun Watson’s latest setback during his recovery from the Achilles injury may force the franchise to pursue a veteran quarterback.

The Browns have the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and will likely select a quarterback. However, the franchise might want a veteran like Rodgers to mentor the rookie.

Rodgers expressed willingness to mentor a rookie quarterback if the Jets decide to keep him, and he will also be open to it for another team. There’s even a possibility that we might see both Adams and Rodgers play together again next season.

Apart from the Browns, the Indianapolis Colts could also be interested in getting Rodgers to let Anthony Richardson learn from him. It would not be a complete shock if the Jets decide to keep the four-time MVP on the team, as the franchise is known for making decisions that not many expect them to make.
