Is Gus Edwards Playing vs. the Texans?

Edwards (ankle) remained limited at practice Wednesday.

Edwards, who missed the Chargers’ last two regular-season games, thus has one more chance to practice fully ahead of Saturday’s Wild Card contest against the Texans. Meanwhile, fellow running back J.K. Dobbins (ankle) also logged his second consecutive limited session, which sets the stage for Thursday’s final injury report to reveal key context with regard to the composition of the Los Angeles backfield this weekend.

If either Edwards or Dobbins is limited or out versus Houston, added snaps would be available for Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal, with Ezekiel Elliott and Jaret Patterson being potential practice squad elevations.

We’ll continue to monitor the Chargers’ injury report. You can also visit and bookmark our NFL Injury Tracker and Fantasy News Tracker for the latest updates.

Should You Start or Sit Gus Edwards on Wild Card Weekend?

Edwards has missed consecutive games with an ankle injury, and while we don’t have clarity on his status just yet, I think you can safely look elsewhere. The price point isn’t too prohibitive, but the profile comes with more risk than reward, even at a cheap price tag.

Edwards is averaging 31.2% fewer yards per carry before contact this season than last year with a declining elusive rating despite facing fewer loaded boxes. At best, you’re chasing a touchdown in a game with a total of 42.5 points from a player who lacks versatility and is at less than full strength.

In my opinion, J.K. Dobbins is the only way to play this backfield, and I’m not in a hurry to go in that direction, never mind his limited backup specialist.
