‘Coach Prime Is Manipulating the Draft’ — NFL Insider Makes Blunt Statement on Deion Sanders’ Involvement on Shedeur Sanders’ Future

    Published on

Analyst Carl Reed Jr. believes that Deion Sanders should use his platform to ensure his son, Shedeur, is drafted by the Tennessee Titans.

Analyst Carl Reed Jr. recently discussed how the internet seems to believe that Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is manipulating the NFL Draft. While he did explain how he did not think this was fully the case, he did outline how if there was one person who could do something like that due to their legacy, it would be Coach Prime.

He jokingly added how if Prime Time had that power, he should use it to ensure his son Shedeur Sanders was drafted by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans currently hold the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft after finishing the season with a 3-14 record.

They have struggled to get strong and consistent quarterback play from both Will Levis and Mason Rudolph, something that has added fuel to the Sanders draft rumors.

What Did Carl Reed Jr. Say About Deion Sanders?

“Every person that I run into in the state of Tennessee, they would like to see Shedeur be the quarterback of the Tennessee Titans. And every time I get on the internet, everybody is telling me that ‘Coach Prime is manipulating the draft,’ and ‘He’s telling the teams who to pick and where to go.'”

Reed detailed how he thinks Deion should ensure that Shedeur heads to Tennessee next year.

“Coach Prime, if you are in fact doing what they said you’re doing and you can, if it’s in you, if anybody can do it, you can do it. If it’s in you to manipulate the draft, you should do it to the Tennessee Titans,” he stated.

Shedeur Sanders’ 2025 NFL Draft Projection

Pro Football Network’s recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft seemed to agree with Reed’s stance, as Shedeur was selected No. 1 overall by the quarterback-needy Titans.

“The Will Levis experiment has come to an end in Tennessee. Levis’ brand of football is nothing short of exciting; however, the Titans brass are looking for something with a little more upside and a lot less risk.

“Furthermore, head coach Brian Callahan has made it clear that neither Levis nor journeyman Mason Rudolph is the long-term answer at QB.

“Enter Shedeur Sanders. The son of “Prime Time” Deion Sanders, Shedeur has all of the traits and pedigree to be an elite NFL quarterback.

“Sanders has a live arm capable of layering throws with pinpoint accuracy and precision. His strong, balanced lower body allows him to fend off pressure and deliver accurate off-platform throws. Whether operating in rhythm or improvising off-schedule, Sanders excels. His pocket mobility and ability to extend plays with his legs, paired with his toughness and grit, make him an ideal fit to be the first player off the board on draft night.”

As Reed alluded to in his comments, there is a belief that Coach Prime may have some say in where his QB son is taken next year. However, it is evident that PFN and some analysts believe the Titans could be a strong fit for the young quarterback.

In 2024, the Titans QBs struggled, leading an offense that finished 27th in PFN’s Offense+ rankings with a 65.2 (D). Both Levis and Rudolph struggled behind a poor offensive line (60.3, D-).

Levis graded out this season to a 62.3, good for a D- and 34th-placed spot among 39 qualified QBs, according to PFN’s QB+ metric. Rudolph graded slightly more favorably with a 69.4 (D+), though that ranked just 26th across the NFL. It may be time for Tennessee to invest first-round capital into the QB position.
