‘Unserious Franchise’ — Dolphins Fans Furious As Miami Sticks With Mike McDaniel, Chris Grier in 2025

Fans of the Miami Dolphins are upset with owner Stephen Ross for retaining coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier.

The Miami Dolphins were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 18 by way of a Denver Broncos win and their loss to the New York Jets. Despite lingering frustrations about not getting over the hump, owner Stephen Ross announced after the game that head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier will return to their posts in 2025.

Fans are not reacting to the news well, taking to social media to express their displeasure.

Dolphins Fans Upset After Mike McDaniel, Chris Grier Return in 2025

After an embarrassing 32-20 loss to the Jets, Ross announced McDaniel and Grier would be back for at least one more campaign.

Yet, fans have grown tired of the status quo. The Dolphins haven’t won a playoff game since 2000, spanning coaches, quarterbacks, and the end of some fans’ patience. Miami entered Week 18 with the 15th-best offense by PFN’s Offense+ metric. Like so many years before, the unit was average, but not good enough to compete with the league’s best.

Fans are even mocking Ross and questioning his lucidity for how he is steering the ship. Some are calling for a boycott of the team. They don’t want others to buy tickets, merchandise, or otherwise spend money to support the franchise. They’ll hope to impact his decisions by hurting his pockets.

One fan, who is a season ticket holder, will not be renewing his tickets. He is disappointed the Dolphins are not doing anything to improve their front office, asking fans to put up with stagnant play and increasing prices.

Meanwhile, Grier has caught flak for poor free agent decisions like Odell Beckham Jr., who didn’t catch a touchdown in a Dolphins uniform. Others are willing to point the finger at him for fragile roster construction that’s yet to earn an optimistic playoff berth.

Edge rusher Shaquil Barnett sat out the whole season before being waived before Week 18. Barnett ultimately signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in time for their playoff run.

Some fans simply do not believe the personnel decisions will get any better in 2025. Recent draft classes haven’t been kind to Grier’s standing, and the clock is ticking on an expiring window.

One fan was happy to call Ross a clown and believes the Dolphins are a circus. The problem with the circus is they come to town, take your money, and then you leave unsatisfied. He might be on to something.

Finally, some fans would have accepted a half-measure, hoping for a sign of life from Miami. All they wanted was for the Dolphins to show some signs of change to conjure up excitement for next season.

The Miami faithful are frustrated, and a once-beloved head coach has found himself in the fans’ crosshairs. If that doesn’t kickstart the front office, Ross may find himself regretting his quick trigger after Sunday’s season-ending loss.
