Shedeur Sanders is expected to be among the top players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. With two weeks left in the regular season, the New York Giants have the worst record in the league and are in possession of the first overall pick.
The Giants need a new quarterback, and since they have a leg up over other QB-needy teams like the Las Vegas Raiders for the first overall pick, Sanders is being linked with New York.

Colorado will play BYU in the Alamo Bowl, and Sanders brought special cleats for the game. The colors of the cleats matched those of the Giants franchise, and it further sparked speculations about his interest in playing for the NFC East team.
The Giants fans on social media were quite happy about the Colorado quarterback being thrilled to play for their team. Here’s how they reacted:

The Giants have already released Daniel Jones and seem likely to pursue a new quarterback next year. Sanders, along with Miami’s Cam Ward, are projected to be the first two quarterbacks taken in the draft.
Based on the latest developments, it would be quite surprising if New York passes up the opportunity to get Deion Sanders’ son to lead them in 2025, given his displayed enthusiasm with the organization and their needs. Earlier this month, the Colorado quarterback was also spotted playing catch with Nabers in the streets of New York while attending the Heisman ceremony.
The star wide receiver, Nabers, has had an impressive rookie season in the NFL, and getting a quarterback like Sanders could further improve him as a player. The Giants also have an emerging running back in Tyrone Tracy Jr., who, along with Nabers and an improved offensive line, will make life easy for Sanders if he gets drafted by the team.
Giants Can Play Themselves Out of Drafting Sanders
The Giants are currently well-positioned to draft the player of their choice with the first overall pick. However, as evidenced by last season, Brian Daboll’s team can easily ruin their chances of getting a new quarterback by winning even one game out of their last two remaining of the season.
New York would have been able to draft Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL Draft if not for Tommy DeVito’s late-season heroics. Some fans fear something similar this year as the team has games left against the Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles.

While the Colts are expected to play hard against them and win in Week 17, the same cannot be expected from the Eagles. Philadelphia might not have anything to play for in Week 18 and might put their reserves on the field against the Giants. No team in the NFL intentionally plays to lose games, which is why there is a serious possibility of the Giants losing out on the first overall pick in the last game of the season.
Teams like the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars both have three wins, but their strength of schedule has been much easier than the Giants’. If New York wins another game and there is a six-way tie among three-win teams, New York could slip as far as seventh, which could put them out of reach for both Sanders and Ward.
As a result, the path to the first overall pick for the Giants is not as easy as it seems, and anything could happen before the end of the season.
