Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes stands to make a big bonus if the Chiefs are successful in their goal of a three-peat this NFL season. Mahomes could potentially see his 2025 base salary raised by $2.5 million with certain incentives.
Mahomes Can Cash In With Super Bowl 3-Peat
Mahomes will secure an escalator provision to his 2025 contract if the Chiefs win the AFC Championship and he wins a third NFL MVP Award. He can get an additional $1.25 million added to his base salary if the Chiefs win the big game in New Orleans and he plays at least 50% of the snaps.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders graduate will have a more difficult time winning the MVP this season, however, with Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles having something to say about it.
With his 2nd TD pass of the day, QB Patrick Mahomes has 244 career TD passes, tying PFHOF Peyton Manning (244) for the most touchdown passes in a player's first 8 seasons in NFL history. Manning accomplished across 128 games in 8 seasons, while Mahomes is playing his 112th game.

Nevertheless, Mahomes is having an MVP-like season, having led the Chiefs to a 14-1 record heading into Week 17. Coming into the Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mahomes completed 66.9% of his passes for 3,608 yards and 23 touchdowns.
One statistic, however, that is not impressive of Mahomes is that he has thrown 11 interceptions in 15 games. He’s thrown at least 12 in each of his last three previous seasons.
Mahomes entered Week 9 tied for the most interceptions in the NFL (9), having thrown picks on 4% of his passes, ranked fourth behind only Will Levis (5.6%), Anthony Richardson (5.3%), and Jordan Love (4.6%).
Mahomes’ previous worst interception season came in 2023, when he tossed a career-high 14 picks and had an interception percentage of 2.3. He had been on pace to blow by that, but in the last five games heading into Christmas Day, Mahomes had not thrown an interception while tossing eight touchdowns.
This might be Mahomes’ finest season due to the injuries he’s been forced to deal with in his wide receiver corps.
The Chiefs have gone most of the season without the combination of Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice. Rice is out for the season with a knee injury, while Brown just came back in Week 16. Mecole Hardman was also placed on injured reserve earlier this month.
