Ezekiel Elliott delivered a standout moment in the Dallas Cowboys’ victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16, rushing for his 71st career touchdown as a Cowboy. While the game itself was close (26-24), Elliott’s touchdown became a highlight. Elliott’s alma mater, the Ohio State Buckeyes, gave the running back a shoutout with a special message, and his mother, Dawn Elliott, jumped on the appreciation train words.
Dawn Elliott Pens Emotional Tweet for Ezekiel Elliott’s Achievements
Ohio State was quick to celebrate one of its most decorated alums as they shared a clip of the play with the caption:
“Feed tha man, good things happen.”
The message was a nod to Elliott, who contributed significantly to the Buckeyes’ national championship win in 2014 and is edging closer to Cowboys franchise history.
Dawn Elliott, clearly moved by the acknowledgment, reposted the tweet and added her own heartfelt message.
“This is his 71st career rushing TD as a Dallas Cowboy. He only needs one more to tie Mr. Dorsett.”

Dawn’s words reflected not just pride but the weight of the milestone her son is about to achieve in the future.
Ezekiel’s touchdown came in the second quarter, a one-yard effort that shone brightly. Though it was his only touch of the game, it was enough to reignite memories of Elliott’s prime and establish him as one of the most impactful running backs in Cowboys history.
However, it’s important to note that the Ohio State Buckeyes referenced Elliott’s brief one-year deal worth $3 million.
The 29-year-old returned to America’s Team after signing his contract this past April. Therefore, Ohio State’s call to “feed” him made a case for Elliott’s continuation in Dallas.
Though the running back has played limited snaps so far this season, his first touchdown on Dallas’ home field since 2022 was special.
Elliott’s journey has been remarkable from the start. As a first-round pick in 2016, he immediately made his mark, leading the league in rushing yards twice in his first three seasons.
Before his NFL success, Elliott was a standout at Ohio State, amassing 3,961 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns for 592 carries in three seasons. His efforts helped lead the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2014 and etched his name amongst the program’s all-time greats.
Elliott became a top prospect after replacing Carlos Hyde, who left OSU that same year. He’s proved his worth as the No. 4 overall pick as his efforts have pushed him closer to franchise history.
