‘Looking Like the Old Green Bay Connection’ — NFL Fans Nostalgic as Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams Score Opening TD

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams gave fans a glimpse of their old partnership with the opening TD against the Rams.

After wide receiver Davante Adams was acquired by the New York Jets in October, he and quarterback Aaron Rodgers were once again teammates following their time in Green Bay from 2014 to 2021, where they connected for 7,529 yards and 68 touchdowns.

On Sunday Night Football, the Jets started deep in their own territory at the one-yard line after a punt by the Los Angeles Rams. New York mounted a full-field drive, moving the ball all the way to the red zone.

The spectacular play came on a fourth-down conversion when Rodgers connected with Adams for an 11-yard pass into the back corner. Adams made the catch and stayed inbounds for his 102nd career touchdown to give the Jets a 6-0 lead early in the game.

NFL Fans Nostalgic After Aaron Rodgers’ Incredible Connection With Davante Adams

Watching the duo’s opening TD, fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) couldn’t help but feel nostalgic about their Green Bay days.

“Looking like the ole Green Bay connection,” a fan wrote.

    “It’s like they’ve done this a few times…,” a fan said.

“Best duo in the league,” a fan chimed in.

The Jets currently hold a 4-11 record and are near the bottom of the standings in the AFC after their Week 16 loss to Los Angeles. Keeping this in mind, some fans wondered if the team would’ve done better if they had the WR in their midst earlier.

“Would they be a playoff contender if the Jets acquired Adams earlier?” a fan questioned.

“Wish we started acting like a competent team a little earlier,” a fan commented.

Another fan mentioned how Rodgers’ play is still elite: “Rodgers just capped off a 99-yard drive😭 he isn’t washed you fools,” a fan said.

However, even with the phenomenal opener, the Jets lost 19-9 to the Rams, as they fumbled a fourth-quarter lead for the sixth time in 2024, allowing 13 points in the final 15 minutes. Matthew Stafford connected on an 11-yard TD pass to Tyler Higbee.

The game was tied at nine when Kam Curl sacked Rodgers and forced a fumble that Jared Verse recovered. Then, Stafford hit Higbee for the touchdown; with the Rams up 16-9, Joshua Karty kicked a 45-yard field goal to make it 19-9 with around five minutes left on the clock. However, the Jets couldn’t turn it around.

Rodgers completed 28 passes on 42 attempts for 256 yards and one touchdown in the game. Meanwhile, Adams had seven receptions with one score and averaged 9.7 yards per reception.
