‘You Barely Beat a Rookie Quarterback’ – LeSean McCoy Dismisses Idea of Justin Herbert’s Chargers Being a ‘Scary’ Team After Win vs. Broncos

    Published on

LeSean McCoy blasted the Chargers' win over Broncos, dismissing the idea of them as "scary" after beating a rookie QB.

Former running back LeSean McCoy is not here for the hype. After the Los Angeles Chargers’ win over the Denver Broncos, McCoy made it clear: don’t crown the Chargers as “scary” just yet. In his eyes, beating a rookie doesn’t suddenly make them a contender.

McCoy’s blunt take has fans split, calling out the Chargers’ win for what it was — just another regular-season victory against a team in transition.

LeSean McCoy Dismisses ‘Scary’ Chargers After Narrow Win Over Broncos

McCoy isn’t one to sugarcoat stuff. On FS1’s “The Facility,” McCoy had some sharp words about Justin Herbert’s team following their narrow victory against the Broncos.

“You barely beat a rookie quarterback with the Broncos. And y’all talking about scary?” McCoy scoffed, completely dismissing any talk of the Chargers being a “scary” team.

His point? The Chargers have had more than their fair share of slip-ups this season.

McCoy called out the Chargers’ losses to top teams. “I don’t know if last night fooled you, but let’s just talk about the Chargers for a second because they are a solid team, but scary? You lose to the Chiefs, right? Good team; they’re not scary. You lose to the Bucs, a good team, you lose to them. The Ravens, you lost to them too. Cardinals, you lost to them too,” he said, emphasizing that those losses don’t scream dominance.

But it wasn’t just the losses that raised his eyebrow; it was the close win over a Broncos squad led by a rookie QB, a win that McCoy feels doesn’t exactly instill fear.

“Everybody’s I just named are all playoff teams,” McCoy continued, referencing the Chargers’ inability to beat serious contenders. When you can’t get over the hump against playoff-caliber teams, McCoy argues, you’re not in the “scary” category.

For the former star, true contenders don’t stumble against inferior teams; they show their strength week in and week out. Until the Chargers prove they can consistently handle top-tier competition, they’re just another solid squad, not one to fear.

McCoy Questions Brock Purdy’s Generous Gifts for O-Line Amid Struggles

Brock Purdy’s holiday spirit might be a little too generous, according to McCoy. With Christmas just around the corner, Purdy decided to gift each of his offensive linemen a shiny new Toyota pickup truck. But McCoy had some strong words about the gesture on FS1’s “The Facility.”

“You are not blocking that well,” McCoy said, critiquing the O-line’s struggles this season. “I’m not playing that well, my stats haven’t been great. What are we doing?” While McCoy admitted that QBs like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen deserve gifts for stellar performances, he felt Purdy’s gift-giving was a bit premature.

After all, the O-line’s protection has been a weak point for the San Francisco 49ers this year, and they’re not even in playoff contention.

However, Chase Daniel disagreed, arguing that even struggling QBs should appreciate their linemen. “Even bad QBs on bad teams get their O-linemen gifts,” he pointed out, adding that the effort from the offensive line still deserves recognition.

While Purdy’s gesture may have sparked debate, one thing’s clear: it’s always nice to see a QB show some love, even if the performance doesn’t always back it up.
