One thing Shedeur Sanders won’t compromise when he gets drafted by an NFL team in April is his jersey number.
The Colorado Buffaloes quarterback has been spotted wearing a No. 2 jersey since his time at Jackson State. He carried the tradition to Colorado and is in no mood to break it when he takes his game to the next level.
Shedeur Sanders Not Wearing Any Jersey But No. 2
During a recent question-and-answer session with fans on his “2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders” podcast, Sanders was asked if he would change his jersey number when he plays in the NFL.
“I’m not wearing another number, bro. It’s two and that’s it,” he said.

Fortunately for Sanders, no team has retired the number. And among passers penciled in to start this season, only New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock will don No. 2. Lock is a looming free agent, though, and would almost certainly change numbers in the event he is re-signed and Sanders is brought into the building.
At the very least, fans can get a head start on custom jerseys once his NFL fate seems more stable.
Why Will Sanders Only Wear No. 2?
Sanders only wears the No. 2 jersey for a couple of reasons. One is that he was born on Feb. 7, the second month of the year, and he’s the second child born to Pilar and Deion Sanders.
“No. 2, it all made sense. Dad wore 21, Shilo wore 21,” Sanders said on his podcast last month. “Originally, I wore No. 2, and from then on, it always just matched everything. Born in February, I’m the second son from my mom and dad together, born in 2002, like that type of stuff.”
Another team that may draft Sanders is the Las Vegas Raiders, where kicker Daniel Carlson currently wears Sanders’ number.
Nonetheless, whether or not he gets his preferred jersey number, there’s no denying he’ll be in hot demand come April. Sanders was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and was also honored as a first-team All-Big 12 selection. He received the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, too, recognizing him as the nation’s top quarterback.
The prospective top pick has more than enough leverage to land whatever number he wants at the next level.
