Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is heading to the NFL Draft next year, and since Deion Sanders is not only his coach but also his father, he doesn’t want his talents to go to waste at a place that doesn’t have proper resources to develop him.
Coach Prime has been vocal about keeping a close eye on the 2025 NFL Draft, making sure his two sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders (along with Travis Hunter), get drafted by teams who could use them properly.
With that being said, is there a chance the New York Giants, a team in the running for the first overall pick, could target Shedeur in the 2025 NFL Draft? Or do they have another QB prospect in their crosshairs?
Nevin Shapiro Claims Giants Will Draft Cam Ward in Place of Shedeur Sanders
Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, who previously served 20 years for a $930 million Ponzi scheme and allegedly violated NCAA rules for years as a UM booster, shared his two cents on Sanders. Despite being considered the best quarterback on the draft board, he may not be drafted by the New York Giants, who are currently in contention for the first overall pick.
Shapiro instead said the Giants would take Miami Hurricanes quarterback and Heisman finalist Cam Ward over Sanders, feeling it has something to do with Sanders’ stern warning to NFL teams looking to draft his son.

“I’m being told through reliable sources that Cam Ward is going to the New York Giants, guaranteed, and the University of Miami’s offensive coordinator is going with him, Shannon Dawson,” Shapiro said. “I’m going to tell you from what’s been shared with me. Deion won’t let his kid go to the Giants, so right away, whether Shedeur is the better quarterback or not, that’s not for me to decide.
“And Pat knows how this thing goes; you can be like this with a guy, but they like your personality a little better than the next guy. You could be the same talent; they’re going with that guy. So Deion’s not letting his kid go to New York; he wants him on the Raiders. The Giants are taking Cam Ward.”
Deion Sanders’ Expectations From the Team That Drafts Shedeur
Deion Sanders, being a former first-round pick himself, knows better than most how some star players don’t fare well on the professional stage despite doing well in college football. He’s not leaving anything to chance and stated his expectations pretty clearly for teams looking to draft Shedeur.
“Somebody that can handle the quarterback that he is. Somebody that can handle understanding what he’s capable of,” Sanders said. “Someone who has had success in the past handling quarterbacks or someone in an organization that understands what they’re doing, not just throwing you out there amongst the wolves.”
Moreover, he also said that if he feels the “wrong team” has drafted the quarterback, he won’t hesitate to step in.
The New York Giants need an elite quarterback after they released Daniel Jones, who was supposed to be their franchise quarterback. Shedeur seems to be an ideal fit, but whether or not the Giants fall in line with Coach Prime’s expectations is what makes the upcoming draft full of intrigue.
