NFL fans were left in awe when the league announced it would take a regular-season game to Berlin, Germany, in 2025. The game will be held at Olympic Stadium, making it the city’s first-ever regular season NFL game, aiming to fulfill the “multiyear commitment to playing games in the sports metropolis.”
The Berlin game will be the fifth time a regular-season game has traveled to the country, with matchups in Frankfurt and Munich since 2022.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also announced that the league could return to Mexico City, Brazil, and England in the coming year.
While announcing the Berlin news, Goodell said, “Germany has a rich tradition of American football, and the NFL has a deep history with the city of Berlin. We first held a preseason game at the Olympic Stadium 34 years ago before it was home to NFL Europe’s Berlin Thunder in the early 2000s.
“Now, with almost 20 million NFL fans in Germany, we’ll make a historic return to the city, playing a regular-season game for the first time as we open the next chapter in our relationship with Berlin.”

NFL fans naturally reacted to the idea of international expansion. Expressing their frustration over the latest news, one fan said, “Stop it. Shrink the game. Keep it in America.”
Another fan added, “NFL wants the world to adopt the product and have more eyes… more $$$.”
“2025 will be a game-changer for Berlin with the NFL coming to town. Olympic Stadium is going to be electric!” one fan said while expressing excitement.
“Oh, yippee! It’s another overseas game that home team fans don’t get to attend. There are too many of those nowadays,” another fan sarcastically said.
Another fan criticized the NFL, saying, “I always love how the NFL wants to grow the game worldwide but sends the Giants and Panthers to games like this.”
Another fan suggested, “Might as well add another division for international teams at this rate. One in London, Munich, Mexico City, and either Canada or Brazil.”
“And it will be two low-tier teams at astronomical ticket prices only for the German press to act like it was the spectacle of the century,” another fan expressed frustration.
The details about which teams will play at the international venue, along with the ticket prices and more, will be announced later.
