Earlier in the week, Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Terrell Owens voiced his support for Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders. In response to a video of Sanders explaining how Hunter and himself are deserving of this year’s Heisman Trophy, Owens presented his view on the matter.
Since the release of the original video where Sanders explains, “It’s me and Trav, 1 and 2” as the top players in college football, Sanders has been omitted as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Released on Dec. 9, the finalists include Sanders’ teammate WR/CB Travis Hunter, Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward, Boise State Broncos RB Ashton Jeanty, and Oregon Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel.
What Did Terrell Owens Say About Shedeur Sanders?
In the previously mentioned X (formerly known as Twitter) response, Owens detailed how despite being omitted from the list of Heisman finalists, Sanders still has a bright future in football.
“The Rejected Will Be Respected. Plus they can’t stop what God has in store for them. #LEGENDARY @WellOffForever,” he explained.

As is clear, Owens believes that Sanders is one of the top players in college football and should have been nominated for the prestigious honor.
Sanders’ 2025 NFL Draft Projection
Despite not being included as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy this campaign, Sanders is expected to be taken quite early in the 2025 NFL Draft. This is echoed by Pro Football Network’s Dalton Miller, who has Sanders being selected No. 2 overall by the New York Giants in his recent 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft.
Miller notes: “There is a seemingly growing sentiment, despite his uneasy conference play, that Cam Ward should be the first quarterback off the board. However, I believe that theory discounts Shedeur Sanders‘ upside as a passer.
“He doesn’t have the arm angles, athleticism, or sheer velocity of Ward, but the Colorado quarterback possesses a lightning-quick release and an arm that bests many high-level NFL passers such as Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa.
“The pressure-to-sack rate is cause for concern, but context is key there. Unlike Ward or the likes of Justin Fields, many of Sanders’ issues come within the two-to-three-second NFL passing window. He isn’t afforded the freedom to operate for four-plus seconds the way Ward and Fields often do.”
Elsewhere, Miller has Heisman finalists Hunter No. 1 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ward No. 7 overall to the New York Jets, Jeanty No. 11 overall to the Dallas Cowboys, and Gabriel No. 165 to the Arizona Cardinals.
