‘Grass Isn’t Always Greener’ – NFL Fans React to Davante Adams Potentially Looking To Leave Jets After Just Half a Season

    Published on

NFL fans stand divided over Davante Adams' possible exit strategy with the New York Jets following this disastrous season.

Davante Adams’ move to the New York Jets didn’t pan out like the wide receiver would’ve wanted. The team is firmly out of the playoff race, and the head coach and general manager are long gone as well.

However, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Adams has a kill switch in his contract. This leverage would allow him to leave the Jets next season, and fans have a divided stance on it.

Davante Adams Can Move Away From Misfunctioning Jets

Per Rapoport, Adams’ contract with the Jets was carried over from the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams will make $11.59 million in 2024 and then $35.64 million in 2025 and 2026 each.

This opens up the door for a renegotiation with the Jets after the end of this season since New York is unlikely to pay the 31-year-old the stipulated $35+ million. In a scenario where Adams doesn’t want to continue with the Jets, he could simply not accept a new deal and will be released as a free agent.

Fans on X (previously Twitter) had a mixed reaction after finding this out. Several applauded the six-time Pro Bowler’s foresight.

“That was smart to negotiate that in the deal,” added one fan.

“He proved the grass isn’t always greener on the other side,” tweeted a fan.

“Dude thought he was leaving a s**t show for greener pastures. Little did he know he was that org is more dysfunctional than LV. Smart move by him though I’d run far away from that team if he wants a ring,” responded one fan.

Meanwhile, a large section of fans called Adams out for his indecisiveness.

“Bro ruined his career,” tweeted a fan.

“Bro needs to stop controlling his own destiny because he makes bad decisions,” another fan added.

“He might have to retire while his name still means something,” replied a fan.

Aaron Rodgers Is Key to Adams Staying With Jets

This past Wednesday, Adams was asked about his plans for next season. He stayed diplomatic but hinted that he might use his leverage to move away if Aaron Rodgers isn’t part of the Jets’ plans in 2025.

“I would love to be a part of this football team,” Adams said. “I’d love to go to war with these guys, but it’s a business, and there are a lot of pieces, contractually, and, obviously, with Aaron’s future — a lot of things that I can’t control.”
