On Tuesday (Dec. 3), the National Football League announced that Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair had been suspended three games for his hit on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
During the game between the two teams this past weekend, Lawrence fled the pocket, began running upfield with the ball, and proceeded to slide. However, Al-Shaair continued with his hit while Lawrence was sliding and drove his elbow, the one with a large arm brace on it, directly into Lawrence’s head and chin area.
The former No. 1 overall pick immediately went into the fencing posture and was eventually carted off. Since the game, Lawrence has provided an update that he is doing much better now and is resting at home.
Social Media Reaction to Al-Shaair Hit and Suspension
Since the incident, fans have taken to social media to express their opinions on the incident. While some have defended Al-Shaair and believe the suspension was too rich, the vast majority of people believe the hit has no place in the game.
One fan highlighted how they thought three games was not enough for what Al-Shaair did.
“3 games for a near decapitation is crazy,” they stated.

Another user was quick to explain that they thought three games was too much.
“Too long. Not fair to Azeez,” they indicated.

Finally, one individual outlined that Al-Shaair’s actions afterward added to the problematic situation.
“It was needed, especially his actions after being thrown out,” they replied.

What Happened After the Violent Hit?
Following the original hit, Jaguars players responded to Al-Shaair, resulting in a large fight breaking out on the field. After this occurred and things had settled down, Al-Shaair began chirping at the Jaguars bench, leading to another brawl.
Though he did issue a statement on the matter yesterday, it does not change the fact that Lawrence could be out for the remainder of the season.
The Texans have their bye in Week 14, thus, the Al-Shaair suspension will take place from Weeks 15-17. In that span, the Texans take on the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens in what is an important stretch for the Texans’ playoff hopes and potential seeding.
