At this point in the college football campaign, it becomes quite common for NFL fans to begin scouting and watching games of individuals who may soon be drafted by their favorite franchise. In the case of one Las Vegas Raiders supporter, they are having increasing doubts about the prospects of drafting Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Though the draft order is yet to be finalized, the Raiders are projected to be picking quite high next year, simply based on form and record this season. As a result, there’s a very real chance that Sanders is available come the time the Raiders are selecting during the 2025 NFL Draft.
What Did One Raiders Fan Say About Shedeur Sanders?
In a recent post released to X (formerly known as Twitter), one user shared some reservations they were having about drafting the son of Prime Time Deion Sanders.
The individual discussed whether the younger Sanders was actually an elite quarterback or whether his remarkable campaign was simply the byproduct of having standout dual-threat talent Travis Hunter as part of his offense.
In the tweet, the user compared the Buffaloes’ duo to Johnny Manziel and legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. Though both athletes looked amazing together at Texas A&M, Manziel struggled to find any type of success at the professional level without his star college receiver.
“It’s also possible and, as a Raider fan whose team might have access to Sanders, this is what scares me, that Travis Hunter might have made Shedeur Sanders in a manner similar to the way that the great Mike Evans made Johnny Manziel on the Aggies,” @englishwithandr explained.
Due to the nature of the post and some profanity used in expressing their message, the quote above has been slightly altered to remove coarse language, and the actual post has not been attached to this article.
How Much of Sanders’ Success Is Due to Travis Hunter?
While it’s unclear how important Hunter’s talents have been to the young Buffaloes quarterback, having the favorite for the Heisman Trophy and projected No. 1 pick in next year’s draft has definitely not negatively impacted Sanders’ statistics and draft stock.
That’s not to say that Sanders is not an elite quarterback or doesn’t have the talents to succeed at the professional level. Statistics aside, he has elite accuracy and is able to read defensive coverages and schemes with ease from the pocket.
As Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings explains in Sanders’ profile, he “flashes high-level accuracy and situational precision on vertical bucket throws” and is a “measured decision-maker and game manager who rarely puts the ball in harm’s way.”
While Hunter’s impact at the college level won’t truly be known until Sanders gets to the NFL, at least one social media user has growing questions about the Buffaloes’ QB without his top option as part of his offense.
