Matt Eberflus’ last seconds as the Chicago Bears head coach have been immortalized in history, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

The Bears lost the Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions 23-20. Terrence Parsons Jr., the Dallas Cowboys edge rusher’s brother, shared his take on the frantic last play from the game.

With 20 seconds left, Caleb Williams tried to prepare the team for another attack, but precious seconds were being lost while they had a timeout in hand. In the end, the pass from Williams was misplaced, time ran out, and the Bears had to face defeat.

A clip of the final play was uploaded by a user on X (formerly Twitter). Micah Parsons’ brother Terrence Jr. couldn’t help himself but question the entire sequence of the play.

He isn’t the only one who was shocked by the head coach’s call of not calling for a timeout.

Fans, pundits, and former players have raised their eyebrows at Eberflus.

Williams Cites a Lack of Communication With Eberflus During the Play

The former head coach chalked the decision of not going for the timeout with 20 seconds on the clock to a “decision-making process.” Williams highlighted that he wanted the team to get lined up for the final play without having to utilize the final timeout.

“I’m focused on getting everyone back and getting everyone lined up,” Williams said. “I don’t have a microphone, so there is no communication with coach there. We could have taken a timeout, but if we hit that play, no one would be worried about it.”

Eberflus has been replaced by Thomas Brown as the new head coach — Brown became the interim offensive coordinator after the Bears fired Shane Waldron.
