Jayden Daniels had a terrific start to his NFL career and was the runaway favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. However, he has not looked the same since suffering a rib injury in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.
With a 34-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12, the Washington Commanders have now lost their last three games. Due to the team’s poor form, Colin Cowherd believes another quarterback should win the award over Daniels.
Colin Cowherd Picks Bo Nix Over Jayden Daniels for OROY Award
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix has played phenomenally well over the last few weeks. Both he and his team have exceeded expectations this season, and the quarterback is in a great position to win the OROY award.
“Bo Nix has completely surpassed Jayden Daniels for Offensive Rookie of the Year in the last six games,” Cowherd said. “It’s not close, Bo Nix looks confident, accurate, poised, and athletic. Jayden’s lost his fastball.”

Nix came very close to defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10 and has won against the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Daniels, on the other hand, is yet to lead the Commanders to a win against a team that could make the playoffs this season.
Cowherd added, “Bo Nix in his last eight games: 15 touchdowns, two picks, and a 104 passer rating in those games. They’re 5-3; like we have to acknowledge now, Denver, in dead cap money hell, that sacrificed draft capital. I think this is a good team.”
The Commanders and the Broncos have similar records (7-5), and ultimately, the award will be given to the quarterback with better stats. As of now, it seems like Nix is heading in the right direction while Daniels has taken a step back after his early-season heroics.
Comparing Nix and Daniels’ Performances This Season
Nix and Daniels have proven to be the right picks for their respective team. No matter which quarterback wins the Offensive Rookie of the Year, both team’s fanbases are happy with how they have played in their rookie season.
In 12 games this season, Nix has thrown for 2,548 yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions, completing 64.9% of his throws with a passer rating of 89.9. He has also rushed for 300 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 4.7 yards per carry.
Daniels has thrown for 2,613 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 12 games. He has completed 68.4% of his throws, with a passer rating of 97.6. The second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has also rushed for 556 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.
So far, the Commanders quarterback has better stats than Nix. But with how the latter has played in the last few weeks, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Nix ends up with better numbers across the board by the end of the season.
Nix has to play the Los Angeles Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Chiefs in Weeks 16-18, whereas Daniels will go against the Philadelphia Eagles, Falcons, and Cowboys during that span. Since both the Commanders and the Broncos could make the playoffs, whichever quarterback plays better in the last three games of the season will likely end up with the OROY award.
