Former Lions QB Names 3 Biggest NFC Threats to Detroit’s Super Bowl Hopes

One former Detroit Lions QB made a list of the three biggest challengers in the NFC that could derail Motor City's Super Bowl aspirations.

The Detroit Lions extended their winning streak to eight after their emphatic win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Several Detroit fans have the Super Bowl in their sights.

However, former NFL QB turned analyst Dan Orlovsky wants the team to proceed with caution. Orlovsky highlighted three teams that can stop the Lions in their tracks.

Dan Orlovsky Fears These 3 NFC Teams Have What It Takes To Upset the Lions

Orlovsky was drafted by the Lions in 2005 and was a part of the team until 2008. In his recent appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, the former QB agreed with his co-host that the Philadelphia Eagles have the best chance of stopping the Lions but added a couple of more teams to that list.

“The Eagles are, but I don’t think they’re by themselves,” said Orlovsky. “I think Philadelphia matches up well because of the way that their talent is on the perimeter, their athletic offensive line.”

“But I also think two other teams that I would say are capable of doing it, that I feel confident in, that is one, Green Bay, and two, the Los Angeles Rams.”

The Lions’ record of 9-1 features a lone defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — that doesn’t bother Orlovsky. However, he detailed his reasoning behind the Rams being on the list, despite the Lions having a win over them.

“There’s been one team that has gone toe to toe with Detroit this year, and played them really well,” he added. “The Rams [in] Week 1. And I know that are they going to get in because of all the injuries, they’re a team, along with the Packers and the Eagles, I think those three are capable of doing it that I have the most confidence in.”

Dan Campbell Has His Eyes Set on the Lions at the Super Bowl

After the Lions’ 26-23 victory against the Houston Texans in Week 10, many were surprised that Za’Darius Smith did not play. The media asked Campbell about the reason for not deploying his newly acquired pass rusher.

The 48-year-old head coach replied that he wanted Smith to have some time to acclimate. “We got 11 games left here,” Campbell added. “We’re going to need him for every one of those.”

This statement after the Week 10 game reflects the Lions’ overall goals — eight games in the regular season, a first-round bye, two NFC playoff games, and then the Super Bowl on February 9, 2025.
