Deion Sanders and his son Shedeur Sanders have been lighting up the football world together right from their days at Trinity Christian School to their current run with the Colorado Buffaloes. But as Shedeur’s stock in the 2025 NFL Draft skyrockets, it begs the question — will Coach Prime follow his son to the NFL?
Dan Orlovsky Says Duo of Deion Sanders and Shedeur Sanders Would Fail in NFL
Former Detroit Lions quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky thinks that it would be terrible if Coach Prime accompanies his son to the pros.
Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Orlovsky pulled no punches, saying, “Deion has set Shedeur up for success. Going to the NFL with Shedeur would set him up for failure. This is the grown men’s league. He’s not going to go play daddy’s son in the NFL.”
"I think Deion will control where Shedeur goes. I do not believe that Deion is going to go to the NFL with Shedeur."

Orlovsky believes it’s not guaranteed that the dynamic that made them successful at Colorado might translate to the pressure-packed world of the NFL. Shedeur, a projected top pick in April, has been exceptional this season, completing 72.9% of his passes for 2,882 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.
With Deion’s proven leadership and Shedeur’s undeniable talent, some see the potential for magic in the pros. However, opposing Orlovsky’s skepticism of the idea of a Sanders package deal is another ESPN analyst, Adam Schefter, who suggested that any NFL team with a top draft pick and a coaching vacancy could consider hiring Deion to pair with his son.
“If Deion Sanders is ever going to make the jump, wouldn’t he want to do it with his son? If his son got to play with his dad, wouldn’t it make it easier to go to any place where he was drafted?” Schefter questioned.
On the other hand, Coach Prime has expressed contentment with his role at Colorado, where he’s led the Buffaloes to an 8-2 record and a shot at the Big 12 Championship. “I am happy where I am, man,” Sanders said recently.
Coach Prime on his name being brought up for other coaching jobs:
“I’m happy where I am, I’m good. I got a kickstand down… I’m happy, I’m excited, I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here. pic.twitter.com/46fxg7he8m

He’s also rumored to be playing a role in recruiting Julian Lewis, a highly sought-after quarterback prospect who decommitted from USC.
The future remains uncertain. Fans who love the drama already dream of Deion and Shedeur in the NFL, but Orlovsky’s views are concerned with the challenges of mixing family and business at the highest level.
