Bill Simmons Proposes Bill Belichick As Next Bengals Head Coach After Possible Zac Taylor Firing

    Published on

Bill Simmons discussed Zac Taylor's future with the Cincinnati Bengals and floated Bill Belichick's name as a potential candidate for the job.

Bill Belichick aims to return to the NFL as a head coach next year. Several teams will likely pursue the New England Patriots legend in the next coaching cycle.

A few days ago, NFL insider Adam Schefter mentioned that at least seven head coaches could lose their jobs this season, which would create more opportunities for Belichick. Bill Simmons recently talked about Belichick’s future and floated the possibility of him working with Joe Burrow next year.

Bill Simmons Discusses Bill Belichick’s Future

The Cincinnati Bengals will likely miss the playoffs this year, and they could fire Zac Taylor. Since the Bengals already have a great quarterback in Burrow and several other star players, Simmons thinks Cincinnati will be an ideal fit for Belichick.

“I don’t know how Zac Taylor survives the season,” said Simmons. “This could be another job that’s open, and I was thinking this is a pretty interesting (Bill) Belichick job. He’s gonna get one of these jobs. It’s a really interesting (Mike) Vrabel job too.”

Cincinnati currently has the league leaders in passing yards (Joe Burrow), receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns (Joe Burrow), along with the league leaders in sacks (Trey Hendrickson). Yet, they are 4-7 on the season and will likely miss the playoffs.

The Bengals have lost a lot of close games this season, and the possibility of the head coach losing his job remains quite high. Taylor is in his sixth year as the Bengals’ head coach and has a record of 41-51, with one Super Bowl appearance, and has made the AFC Championship Game twice.

With Burrow as their quarterback, the Bengals are a Super Bowl contender every year, and they can’t experiment on young head coaches. If the franchise does part ways with Taylor, both Belichick and Vrabel are ideal candidates for the job, as they have experience coaching good teams.

    Potential Landing Spots for Belichick

Apart from the Bengals, teams like the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys, and Las Vegas Raiders are expected to show interest in Belichick. Out of all of them, the Bengals have the best quarterback and give the legendary head coach the best chance of winning another Super Bowl.

Earlier this month, Simmons mentioned the Jaguars as another potential landing spot for Belichick due to Trevor Lawrence and the team’s need for stability.

Nobody knows where Belichick will end up, but unlike after his Patriots exit, he will have plenty of options to choose from. The 72-year-old head coach is 14 wins behind Don Shula in most head coach wins in NFL history.
