Mike McCarthy is in the final year of his five-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The NFC East franchise is currently 3-6 on the season and will probably miss out on the playoffs with a season-ending injury to Dak Prescott.
The 61-year-old head coach is unlikely to be offered an extension, and he will leave the Cowboys with three playoff appearances and just one playoff win in five seasons.
McCarthy has also reportedly listed his $5.7 million mansion, which further proves that he will not be the Cowboys’ head coach next year.
Details on Mike McCarthy’s Plan To Sell His $5.7 Million Mansion
As per Athlon Sports, the Cowboys’ head coach is planning to sell his $5.7 million mansion, which is located in Allen, Texas. The house, located around 10 miles from the Cowboys’ headquarters, was initially listed for sale in July. The mansion’s sale is still pending, but McCarthy is working on a real estate deal.
The mansion, built within 8,346 square feet, has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. It also has a full workout room and a backyard with a swimming pool. McCarthy also owns another $2 million mansion around the area, which current Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn previously owned.
Quinn, who was previously the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, sold the house when he left Dallas, and McCarthy has no plans to sell that.
Since he is all but certain to leave the Cowboys after the end of the season, McCarthy has already started making moves to transition into the next phase of his career. By listing his $5.7 million mansion on sale, he has hinted that he’ll be open to coaching again, but nobody knows whether or not any team will approach McCarthy in the next coaching cycle.
Who Should the Cowboys Hire To Replace McCarthy?
The current leading candidates for the next year’s coaching cycle are Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, and Ben Johnson. The Cowboys are expected to engage in conversations with all three, and it will be important for the franchise to make decisions based on the team they have.
Johnson, who is currently the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator, is the hottest name on the market, but he has often made it clear that he doesn’t need to become a head coach if he doesn’t love the opportunity. He has prioritized getting to a team with the right organizational structure, so working for an actively involved owner like Jerry Jones might not be an ideal spot for Johnson to start his career.

Belichick has a good relationship with Jones and could potentially get the job. The Cowboys have a culture problem, and they often lose to teams that play tough. The former Patriots head coach will instill toughness in Dallas’ team, but it will be interesting to see whether he can work with Jones as the general manager.
Vrabel looks like an ideal candidate for the Cowboys, as he is just 49 years old but has six years of experience as a head coach in the NFL. He went 54-25 with the Tennessee Titans and will instantly improve Dallas’ defense, which has been one of the worst in the league.
The team already has a veteran quarterback in Prescott, and as seen in the past, he’ll be fine if the Cowboys add a quality running back. As for the defense, it needs a complete overhaul, and a coach like Vrabel or Belichick will be helpful in cleaning up the mess and improving the mindset of the players on the Cowboys’ roster.
